Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department Press Release:

On May 9th, 2024, at approximately 5:10pm, dispatch received a report of a domestic situation
involving a firearm at a rural Westbrook address. Cottonwood County Deputies, along with other agencies responded to the scene.
Upon arrival we learned the victim was able to get out of the residence and the suspect was
alone in the house. Deputies set up a perimeter and requested the regional High Risk Entry and
Arrest (HEAT) Team assist us on the scene. Attempts to contact the suspect were unsuccessful.
The HEAT Team arrived on scene and attempted to negotiate with the suspect. The suspect
would not respond to the negotiator. We continued our attempts to contact the suspect throughout the night.
On May 10th at approximately 2:44am the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.
This case remains under investigation.
In addition to the HEAT Team, the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene
by the Windom Police Department, Westbrook Police Department, Westbrook Ambulance,
Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources

Jackson County Sheriffs Office reported on the 8th, at 8:40 am A deputy conducted a traffic stop on MN 86 south of Lakefield.  A citation was issued for Hands Free Violation. At 8:51 AM  A deputy responded to a Jackson gas station between an employee and two occupants in a semi.  The semi had been parked in the parking lot at the stop sign for a significant period of time which was blocking other customers from leaving.  When an employee asked the driver to please move, the second occupant threw a can of Red Bull at the employee and then left eastbound on I-90. Then at 2:58pm deputies responded to a juvenile our of control in Jackson and at 4:35pm a deputy received a report of a Harassment Restraining Order violation.

Windom police Department reported on the 8th at approximately 5:16pm an officer spoke with a Windom female regarding a harassment restraining order violation. After investigation, an arrest was made of a 54-year-old from Windom for Harassment Restraining Order Violation, pending review by the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Springfield Chamber will be kicking off Riverside Days at the 16th Annual Springfield Chamber Golf Tournament on Wednesday, June 26th at the Springfield Golf Club. Its a 9-hole 4 person Scramble.
