Windom Area Schools released the following information from the State of Minnesota. During the summer of 2024, Minnesota plans to introduce Summer EBT, a fresh initiative offering grocery benefits. This program will help furnish families with $120 per eligible school-aged child, aiding them in purchasing groceries when school is not in session. According to the State, Summer often poses challenges for families as children lose access to meals provided at school, necessitating additional support for meal provision. While most families will receive these benefits automatically, some parents may need to apply.

Children are eligible for the program if:

  • The household already participates in SNAP, MFIP, FDPIR, Tribal TANF, Medicaid and/or Foster Care
  • The child attends a school that offers the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program and the household income meets the requirements for free or reduced-price school meals.

These students will automatically be enrolled,

If the household is not automatically enrolled and may be eligible, they get Summer EBT by filling out an application for educational benefits via Skyward on the Windom Schools website or you can contact your school and ask where the application is available.

In Windom, to learn more about filling out an application, contact Elaine Deutchman, Food Service Director at 507-831-6901 ext. 325 or email edeutchman@isd177.com The benefits will be provided on a separate EBT card and can be used to buy groceries. Families will receive $120 per eligible child for the summer. Benefits can be used at authorized retailers like grocery stores and farmers markets to purchase healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, meats and other protein sources, whole grains and dairy. More information is available on the MDE Summer EBT Website.  https://education.mn.gov/mde/dse/datasub/sebt/

It’s National Clean Your Room Day!!! It’s time to contain the chaos and get a new outlook! I encourage everyone to dig in and getter done!!! Yesterday was lost sock day, I was actually cleaning under the bed after the grandkids left and yep there was a sock, I thought to myself… I wonder if James is missing his sock. Knowing him he just looked at his mommy and daddy and said I don’t know where it went and is celebrating today- National One Day without Shoes, because we all know you can’t wear shoes without socks! I actually had a friend that scheduled a meeting with me at the river. When I arrived, she said let’s take our shoes off and walk and talk… Crazy!!! I thought… she then explained, that taking your shoes off centers your whole being. Walking without our shoes did settle my mind and we had a very productive meeting and resolved a lot of hurdles that we were facing in our project. I still, to this day when overwhelmed take off the shoes and let the earth calm me from my feet to my head. Don’t knock it till you try it! Sand, water, grass and mud… It is nature’s way of healing!!!
