The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department released the following press release on the 20th.
At 9:41 AM, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the Jackson Inn Motel, formerly known as the Econo Lodge, in Jackson. The caller reported being assaulted in the lobby area by a known male. The caller stated the male was armed with a pistol which was used to strike the victim, but the caller did not know if the pistol was a real one or an airsoft. The male was initially reported to be in the lobby area with the gun but had then retreated to living quarters on the second floor.
Multiple deputies arrived on scene simultaneously within minutes and entered the lobby area. As they approached the stairwell to the living quarters where the suspect was said to have retreated to, a deputy recognized the suspect standing at the top of a stairwell holding a black pistol in his hand. Deputies retreated to cover and began systematically removing any tenants in the motel rooms. The HEAT Team, which happened to be training in Jackson for the day, was also paged to the scene to assist. The Jackson Ambulance was also paged to the scene for precautionary reasons.
Tenants from a handful of motel rooms were safely escorted out of the building. The 911 caller was also located and escorted to safety. He had visible injuries but declined medical treatment. At that point, there was no public safety threat other than to those officers who were on scene.
Deputies began negotiating with the male, age 28 who resides inside the motel, for a peaceful surrender. After negotiating for over two hours, the male did peacefully surrender at about 12:10 PM. He was examined by the Jackson Ambulance for precautionary reasons. He was medically cleared and arrested on probable cause 2nd Degree Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Domestic Assault – Strangulation. A pistol was recovered at the scene. The motel was then turned back over to management, and all tenants were allowed back into their rooms.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the HEAT Team and the Lakefield PD.

Unfortunately, today is As Young As you Feel Day… My joints are achy my back is killing me, I have that silly cough coming back and TODAY I am like 150 years old… I am not sure why I even got out of bed!!! AND THEN as fate has it, Today is National GOOF OFF DAY… How can I goof off if I am 150 years old!!!! But they say laughter is the best medicine and I happened to see that today is also National Talk like William Shakespeare Day. Yes… believe it or not THIS brings a smile to my face and a thunderous laugh from my belly. It was the year 2011 and we were headed to Texas for vacation and my son Nate was driving me nuts in the car… We had 6 hours left in our trip… I told the boy that IF he only talked in Shakesperian tone until we got to Texas I’d give him a $100. He was YOU ARE ON!!! We tried everything in our power to get him to talk out of the Old English. He held strong.. We even stopped at a grocery store, and I secretly talked to the checkout gal and told her about the bet, she was AMAZING!!! When we got to the check out she was pleasant with all of us and then turned to Nate and said, You look like someone I know.. Do I know you? Nate shook his head no. Then she said, hey what is your name I really think I know you.. He turned bright red and I told him We raised you better than that, you speak to this kind person that is trying to be friendly… Such a dilemma the boy was in.. Make a fool of himself in front of this cute girl or loose the $100…. Out of his mouth came. My Nameth is Nate. I Shalt not Knoweth who You are for I Amith from South Dakota! Oh my goodness we were dying!!!! The gal looks at him and says WHAT IS YOUR THING? Are you in Theater or something? Nate says NO-ITH I Amith but a poor boy that Hasith a bet Betrothed upon me that I don’t Wishith to Squatih away… She then lost it and we were all laughing sooo hard and still as I tell you this I can contain the smile on my face. My determined boy kept up the language all the way until we had about 30 minutes left in the car when I said hey does anyone want a piece of jerky… ooooo Nate says. I LOVE JERKY I’ll have some of that! BOOOMMMMM!!!!! He lost the bet, BUT THAT’s A MEMORY that will follow us for the rest of our days!
Whilst the Dayeth Doth Come May you HAVETH be pleasant into the Fortnight Hence Forward.
