Windom Police Department reported on the 28th at approximately 8:30 pm officers were dispatched to a vehicle crash near the MN HWY 60 bridge across from the Subway. Officers upon arrival observed a 2023 Ford F-150 that was hauling a trailer with a large boat, jackknifed, blocking the northbound lane. The Ford was facing east while the trailer faced south. Both the driver and passenger who were from Ocala Florida denied medical treatment. It was reported that they were driving over the bridge, traveling south when they felt the trailer begin to slide on top of the bridge, the driver attempted to slow but the trailer was already sliding away, causing the trailer and truck to jackknife. The officer noted that the outdoor temperature was below freezing with off and on snow flurries. The Ford F-150 sustained severe and disabling damage, the extent of damage to the boat and trailer is unknown. Both the Pickup and trailer with the boat were towed by Windom Towing.

The MN State Patrol reported with the first wintery snow fall, that on Tuesday from Midnight to 9am they responded to 181 crashes statewide. There were 9 crashes with injuries but not seriously hurt and zero fatalities. There were 121 spun out vehicles into ditches and 13 semi’s that jackknifed.

Today at 10am, the City of Jackson will be doing a groundbreaking Ceremonty for Belmont Heights a new 40-acre Workforce Housing development in Jackson. Belmont Heights is located on the north side of Jackson, off Highway 71 across from the Jackson Golf Course on Prospect Lane. Jackson Mayor Marcus Polz stated “This housing project is a notable example of a private-public partnership and collaborating with local employers to understand their needs. I anticipate the partnerships on this project to be an example of future projects. The economic benefit and added tax base will aid the city of Jackson in being that desirable place to work, live and play.” Parking will be on Prospect Lane by the Liquor Store.
Belmont Heights will be the latest in a number of recent developments in the Jackson area. Other recent projects include a new Family Dollar/Dollar Tree store, LaCanne Funeral Home, Cabin Coffee, new location for Subway and single-family spec homes.
