The Council also approved 7.23 million for general obligation bond for electric and liquor store projects with a call for a public hearing on October 17th. According to Councilwoman Jenny Quade, this bond will be paid back with electric and liquor store revenue and not general tax dollars or tax levy funding. The Council also approved a conditional use permit for the Planned Unit Development and general concept plan per the Planning Commission Recommendations for the preliminary plat of south Cottonwood Lake Subdivision. The Preliminary 2024 Budget Levy Resolution was set to not to exceed $2,564,542 which is a 5.71% increase from 2023.   The 2023 tax levy was 7.67%.  According to Quade, this 5.71% is a NOT to exceed number, and budget talks will begin soon. Mayor Dominc Jones appointed Rick Fredrickson to the Hospital Board. Councilman Scott Benson and Councilman Esplan want a lower tax levy and are looking for suggestions as to what could be done to get this lower. They are asking for public input. If you have a suggestion, please reach out to them to help lower the tax levy. Quade attended the Cottonwood County’s Public Cannabis meeting on Tuesday which she reported there was minimal public attendance. It was Quade’s suggestion that the council wait and see the Ordinance the County passes and then look at that as a template for the City building an Ordinance as they will need to adopt an Ordinance at some point.

Life is beautiful… I have been blessed with a new grandson this past week. It never ceases to amaze me how God creates perfection in everything He does. Whether it is a sunrise, a sunset, a bug, a flower, a baby HE is just amazing. I am still floating on cloud nine as I watch my baby hold another one of his babies and I just feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to hold this perfection in my hands and see the hope for the future. I can’t wait to see it unfold in each of my grandkids potential. With all the bad going on in this world, I just know that my Fabulous Four will grow in kindness and love and make a difference. My heart is full and it is only fitting that today is International Day of Peace. I leave you with Let there be peace by making the world a better and more sustainable place for all. The miracle of a peaceful neighborhood, community, city, state, nation and world starts with us.
