The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported 50 calls from January 22nd to the 28th. Deputies handled 20 Civil Processes, four motorist assists three prisoner transports aided two vehicles off road and two ambulance medical calls.  For the full listing of the Weekly Citizens Report click below.

The Windom Police Department reported two hit and run accidents on the 27th. At approximately 2:30pm, the owner of a 2015 Ford F-150 was parked in front of a house on the side of the road at 969 River Road when a vehicle backed up into the pickup and left the scene of the accident without leaving any information. Light damage was left on the driver’s side bumper and tailgate. At approximately 8:10pm the owner of a 2017 Volkswagon Jetta reported she was parked in front of a residence at 1512 4th Ave between the hours of 3:30 and 8pm when her cars drivers side mirror was damage. The vehicle that did the damage is unknown.

As a reminder, coming up on Wednesday February 1st is the monthly test of the Emergency Warning Siren System. The City of Windom has an outdoor warning system and it is tested the first Wednesday of each month. If you would like to learn more about this go to windom-mn.com

The Windom Planning Commission will be holding a special meeting tonight at 7pm at Windom City Hall in the City Council Chambers.

Speaking Proudly is a nonpartisan, nonprofit project that welcomes  “Girls from all types of schools – public, private, home, charter and other schools –to apply, for an oratory competition focusing this year’s topic, “Securing the Blessings of Liberty in the 21st Century America.” The Speaking Proudly Organization is comprised of  Metro Republican Women and is open to girls in grades nine through 12 who reside in or attend school in Minnesota. Sherie Wallace, a member of the Speaking Proudly Steering Committee stated they hope this topic will encourage competitors to consider what the blessings of liberty are and how they can be protected and nurtured for all Americans. Applications are due in March to select 24 competitors.”

The final competition will take place on June 17th at the State Capitol. The first-place winner will receive $2,000 and the second- and third-place finalists will receive $1,500 and $1,000, respectively. All competitors will speak once in the House of Representatives chamber and twice in other Capitol rooms. The final round will be in the Rotunda.
