As August comes to an end it is time to start thinking about Fall and Winter and keeping our children in our communities warm. The Cottonwood County Coats for Kids drive is in full swing and the community is being asked to consider cleaning out your closets and donating gently used and clean coats, mittens, snow pants, and boots or purchasing new to donate. Items can be dropped off in Windom at Runnings, Windom Area Health, The Baptist Church, Dollar General, First United Methodist Church, Lutheran Church of Our Savior, First Presbyterian Church and BARC. In Bingham Lake items can be dropped off at The Gathering Church. All Donations will be picked up on September 19th and then distributed at the BARC on Saturday September 24th from 10am to 1pm. A special project is underway in Windom. Frank’s Shoe Repair located at 943 3rd Ave in Windom is funding a “the heart of a square” project that shows the history of the beautiful downtown in Windom. This is celebration of the local business that keep the square and town thriving. They are asking for your help! If you have any old photos of the square, they would love to see them. They also need the communities help confirming locations, confirming timelines, and confirming business names and name changes. Windom Police Department reported on the 30th at approximately 8:50am an officer took a report from a Windom resident. It was reported that tabs were stolen off a vehicle sometime Saturday or Sunday night in the 100 block of 6th Ave. The back tabs were taken off the vehicle, but the front ones were still there. The officer investigating has requested video camera coverage from the apartment manager.

Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office had two reports on the 26th at approximately 1 pm a Deputy spoke with a female party at the Law Enforcement Center. She resides outside of Mountain Lake and wanted to talk about a Harassment, Restraining Order violation between her and a male that lives in Watonwan County. She had received several messages from the male who was using his son’s phone. Upon review of the messages and review of the County Attorney, the male party was subsequently arrested for Violation of his Harassment, Restraining Order.  Then at approximately 3:30pm a Deputy received a report of a theft that had occurred at New Vision Coop outside of Mountain Lake. A converter had been cut off a vehicle.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 29th a deputy responded to a report of an injured dog in the ditch in Minneota Township.  The deputy determined who the owner was and drove the dog to them. The dog was transported to a vet clinic to receive care. Three kids were issued “I Got Caught” Tickets for wearing their helmets on their bicycles. Kids receive free DQ ice cream cones when they get issued a ticket! Later in the evening a deputies responded to two separate minor accidents one in Jackson and one in Belmont Township and a deputy assisted the Lakefield Ambulance with a medical at 9:37pm.
