Windom Police Department reported on July 18th at approximately 6:45pm an Officer received a call from a Windom male that reported his mother was sexually assaulted. It was reported that on or about July 16th, in the City of Windom, a 56-year old male suspect engaged sexual penetration with another adult and used force to accomplish penetration. Case has been reviewed by the County Attorney’s Office and an arrest warrant was issued and the 56-year-old male has been arrested.

Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported on July 15th at approximately 4:30pm a Deputy received a phone call from a female party stating that the previous day her daughter was mowing along their driveway and stated that an African American male on a bicycle stopped at the end of the driveway and appeared to be taking pictures of her. Her daughter went up to the house and the party left. The reporting party then stated that the next morning the same party rode his bicycle into their yard and stopped in front of their house. Her daughter yelled at the suspect to leave the property and he left and went back toward Mountain Lake. On the 16th At approximately 2am Deputies were dispatched to Sorenson Street in Storden for a verbal argument between a male and female. Westbrook PD Officer also responded to assist. After speaking with the parties, they agreed to separate for the night. And at approximately 8:34pm a Deputy heard Cottonwood County Dispatch page the Storden Fire Department to 200 Sorenson Street in Storden for a kitchen fire. The Deputy spoke with homeowners who didn’t think anything of it due to the dump being close to their house. When the door was opened to the residence, it was full of smoke. They discovered two burners on the stove were on and believe the cat or dog may have tried to jump up on stove while they were gone. No one injured except lost two cats and dog was taken to the vet. On July 18th at approximately 906am a Cottonwood County Deputy received a phone call from a male party requesting a welfare check done on his children in Jeffers. RP said that his kids are currently living with their mother and does not believe that the house is suitable for children to be living in. Information sent to Family Services for further action.

Jackson County Sheriff Department reported on the 19th a Deputy responded to a report of a burglary and theft in Jackson and the Alpha and Jackson Fire Departments were paged for a mutual aid request by the Sherburn Fire Department for a barn fire at a rural residence in Martin County. At approximately 10:30pm A deputy conducted a traffic stop on I-90 near Jackson.  As a result, the driver was issued a citation for Speeding 94-mph in a 70-mph zone.

Eighty-five farm families and operations, the most in recent memory, will be honored in August by the University of Minnesota at the 2022 Farm Family of the Year ceremony.

The farms will be recognized in a ceremony beginning at 1:15 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 4, at the annual Minnesota Farmfest on the Gilfillan Estate near Redwood Falls. The event is in the Wick Buildings Farmfest Center on the estate grounds.

Those honored cover a wide spectrum of farming, from traditional crops and livestock to community-based ventures focused on organics and traditional native foods. They were chosen by county-based local University of Minnesota Extension committees based on their demonstrated commitment to enhancing and supporting agriculture.
