PRESS RELEASE FROM WINDOM POLICE DEPT RE: Evacuation of Middle and High School

This morning at approximately 8:15 am the Windom Area School officials contacted the Windom Police Department to a potential bomb threat. The district had students and staff shelter in place. Officers responded and Windom Police Department advised the district to evacuate the Middle and High School Building. After students were evacuated from the building, law enforcement conducted a search of the premises. The investigation is ongoing. The Windom Police Department was assisted by the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, DNR and Windom Fire and Ambulance also responded. Students were reunited with their parents in the morning through a coordinated effort of the Windom School District Staff, Palmer Bussing and Windom Fire Department. Windom Police Department believes there is no active threat to the school or students. Thank you for your patience and assistance.

The Windom Police Department reported 13 total accidents in March with one injury.

The Developmental Achievement Center also known as DAC is all about recycling items. D.A.C. provides work opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. According to Rhonda Haglund the Director of Cottonwood County D.A.C.  they provide work both within the community, with their cleaning crews and in-housework, like the rug weaving. D.A.C.  also provides opportunities for volunteering and social activities within the community. Haglund went onto say they are looking for donations of fabrics such as denim, flannel, corduroy, cotton, and chenille. These materials are used to make woven rugs and place mats. Knits or sweatshirt material are used to make into dog toys. In turn the rugs, placemats and dog toys are sold at the D.A.C.  building Monday through Friday from 8-3.  Schwalbach’s also has a supply of D.A.C.  rugs and is open evenings and weekends!

D.A.C. also accepts paper and books for shredding. They are always looking for donations to shred large amounts of paper. In return, if anyone needs shredded paper for packing or animal bedding can contact D.A.C.  and it is FREE! D.A.C. has been in business for 55 years and pride themselves on being active members in the community. If you have items to donate, they can be dropped off Monday through Friday 7:30am to 3pm at 1049 5th Ave in Windom. The Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services Joint Powers Board will be conducting the Public Hearing pursuant to Minnesota Statute 373.41 regarding a proposed Fee Schedule for Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services (DVHHS), to be effective April 14, 2022. March Weather Stats                 4/1/22  

The monthly weather statistics have been reported for the city of Windom in March.  The information is compiled by a local weather observer and reported to the National Weather Service Office in Sioux Falls.

March was a wetter month than in 2021, reporting 2 and 85 hundredths of an inch of precipitation and 2.2 inches of snowfall verses 1.88  inches in 2021. However, last year’s snow total for the month was 4.4 inches.

The high temperature was 70 degrees on March 22nd with the average high for the month being just over 42 degrees.   The low for the month was one above zero on March 12th.  The average low for the month was 23.9 degrees.
