Windom Police Department reported 114 calls in the week of August 16th to August 22nd. Traffic enforcement made up a large portion of the week’s activity, with officers conducting 46 traffic stops along with 16 directed patrols. Officers had 6 Concerns for Welfare, 1 DANCO Violation, 1 Dead on Arrival, and 2 public assists. Police responded to an Assault, 1 Animal Call, 1 Animal Bite, 1 Civil Dispute, and 1 Fireworks call. Police investigated 3 Suspicious Vehicles, 1 Suspicious Person, 1 Ordinance Violation, a Driving Complaint and had one Citizen Complaint. The filing period for this fall’s city and school board elections is now closed, and several contested races are taking shape across the area.

In Windom, there will be a contested race for City Council At Large. Incumbent Dennis Esplan will face Janice Vitcak. Ward One Council Member Jenny Quade and Ward Two Council Member James Nelson are both running unopposed.

The Windom Area School Board has three seats up for election, with three candidates filing. Incumbents Angela Klassen and Brianne Miller are seeking re-election, and Brittany Higley has also filed.

In Mountain Lake, four candidates are running for two City Council seats. Incumbents Bryan Bargen and Andrew Ysker will be joined by Emily Mathiowetz and Brittany Winters.

The Mountain Lake School Board has seven candidates competing for three four-year seats. Julie Brugman and Matthew Gohr are seeking re-election, while Lindsey Brockberg, Derek Harder, Jordan Kirk, Jason Kruser and Ricardo Renteria have also filed.

There will also be a contested race in Precinct One of the Red Rock Central School District, which includes Lamberton. Megan Imker and Madelaine Posusta are on the ballot for that seat.

Elsewhere, Brad Prins has filed for mayor of Jeffers, with Shawna Dorr-Jones and Sheila Ryker running for two City Council seats.

In Storden, two candidates — Sean Waters and incumbent David Hansen — are seeking two City Council seats.

The Westbrook-Walnut Grove School Board has three candidates for three seats: Denise Clouse, Jack Jorgenson and Greg Madson.

And in the Heron Lake-Okabena School District, three candidates have filed for three School Board seats: Mark Fest, Annie Rasche and John Volk.

The general election will be held in November, with more information on local races and candidates available as election day approaches.
