Mountain Lake Police Department reported 27 calls in the week of August 10th to August 16th. Among the calls, officers assisted the MN State Patrol, Mountain Lake Fire Department and Ambulance with an injury accident involving a motorcycle and car. Police also responded to multiple reports of an aggressive dog that had reportedly attacked and nearly bitten a resident and was preventing the residents from leaving their home. The dog continued to act aggressively toward the responding officer. Less-lethal measures were attempted, but due to continued safety concerns, the dog was ultimately put down. Officers also investigated a reported theft from a building in the 800 block of 3rd Avenue. That case remains under investigation. Other calls included a welfare check, driving complaint, funeral escort, an open business door and a report of someone knocking on a door and running away. Representatives from the Minnesota Department of Transportation gave the Windom City Council an update Tuesday evening on the Highway 60 and 71 roundabout project, with construction expected to begin next summer. MnDOT officials said the project is scheduled to begin after Riverfest in mid-June of 2027, with hopes of completing the roundabout portion by late September or early October, depending on weather. MnDOT representatives spent time Tuesday meeting with businesses and property owners along the construction corridor to discuss the timeline, detours and how customers will continue to access businesses during the project. Officials said the frontage road system will be a major benefit, allowing businesses to remain accessible even while Highway 60 is closed to through traffic. Highway 60 will remain open to local traffic from Highway 62 to just south of the bridge during roundabout construction. Once the roundabout is completed, work will shift to the bridge area, which will require another closure expected to last about four weeks. MnDOT said the roundabout is designed to improve safety and reduce speeds coming into Windom. The project will also include sidewalk improvements, drainage work and modifications near the bridge. Detours will be posted for both Highway 60 and Highway 71 traffic, along with signs directing motorists to food, lodging and gas during construction. MnDOT is also planning a public construction open house next spring, likely in April or May, where residents and business owners will be able to view maps, meet with the contractor and ask questions before work begins.
