Voters across Minnesota headed to the polls Tuesday for the state’s Primary Election, narrowing the field of candidates who will appear on the November 3rd General Election ballot. With 85 of Minnesota’s 87 counties reporting and more than 95 percent of precincts reporting, several statewide races have clear winners.
In the Republican race for U.S. Senate, Michele Tafoya won the nomination with just over 52 percent of the vote. Adam Schwarze finished second with nearly 24 percent. On the DFL side, Peggy Flanagan won the U.S. Senate nomination with 59 percent, followed by Angie Craig with about 39 percent.
In the Republican race for Governor and Lieutenant Governor, Lisa Demuth and Ryan Wilson received about 44 percent of the vote to win the nomination. Mike Lindell and Phillip C. Parrish finished second with about 32 percent. On the DFL side, Amy Klobuchar and Ben Schierer won with nearly 90 percent of the vote.
In the Secretary of State’s race, Republican Tad Jude won the nomination with about 60 percent, defeating Wendy Phillips. Democrat Steve Simon ran unopposed.
For State Auditor, Republican Scott Jensen won with nearly 67 percent of the vote. Democrat Zack Filipovich ran unopposed.
In the Attorney General’s race, Republican Ronald J. Schutz ran unopposed, while Democrat Keith Ellison won his party’s nomination with nearly 85 percent of the vote.
The winners of the contested primary races will now advance to the November 3rd General Election. Windom Police Department responded to the 800 block of 5th Avenue for a vandalism report on the 7th at 7:03 pm. The reporting party stated her 2017 Cadillac XT5 was keyed on the rear hatch sometime during the night. On the 8th at 12:29am a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee was parked in the Family Dollar parking lot when an unknown vehicle hit the front drivers side fender causing damage and left the scene.

The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners held a special meeting Tuesday, August 11th. Commissioners approved the agenda as amended and approved purchasing Benefits Enrollment Service from Paycom for 2026 at a cost of 7,570 dollars. The board also reviewed budgets for Planning and Zoning, Probation, the Jail, Sheriff’s Office, Auditor-Treasurer, and Elections. Commissioners also scheduled a special meeting for 9 a.m. August 25th to continue reviewing the 2027 county budget.
