Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported 50 calls in the week of June 28th to July 4th.  Deputies conducted 18 Civil Processes, 4 Traffic Stops, and 3 Motorist Assists. Deputies investigated 1 Suspicious Person, 2 Suspicious Activities, 1 Concern for Welfare and 2 Driving Complaint. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reported 50 calls from June 29th to July 5th. Deputies had several Fireworks Complaints, responded to a Domestic Disturbance in Jackson, an Assault in Jackson, a Disturbance in Jackson, a Harrassment and Assisted Lakefield PD with Domestic Disturbance. Deputies also were on scene and responded to several calls related to the storm for powerlines down, excessive debris and helped with clean up. Deputies had 2 Loud Music Calls, a Child Protection Issue a report of a suspicious male on foot in Jackson and conducted 2 Welfare Checks and investigated 2 Theft Calls that remain under investigation. Residents interested in serving the City of St. James have an opportunity to run for local office this fall. Filing for city council and mayoral positions opens Tuesday, July 14, and closes at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28th. Offices on the November 3rd ballot include a two-year term for mayor, four-year terms for the First Ward and Second Ward council seats, and a four-year at-large council position. Candidates must file an affidavit of candidacy with the St. James City Clerk at City Hall and pay a 25-dollar filing fee. To qualify, candidates must be eligible voters, at least 21 years old when taking office, have lived in the City of St. James for at least 30 days before the election, and cannot have filed for another office in the same general election. Affidavits must be submitted to St. James City Hall no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28.
