Mt Lake Police Department reported 26 calls from June 15th to June 21st. Officers mediated a civil property dispute, conducted several traffic stops, the HEAT TEAM was called out, took several reports and concerns of fraud at Mountain Lake Automotive, delt with parking complaints and a found open door at a storage unit. The Windom Area School Board reviewed progress on the district’s 2023-2028 Strategic Plan during its June 22 meeting. Superintendent Jamie Frank said the plan, developed by a community task force in 2023, continues to guide district decisions and priorities. Administrators reported significant progress across the plan’s focus areas, including school safety, student achievement, staff development, and facilities. Frank noted ongoing ALICE safety training, curriculum updates, family engagement efforts, and strong communication with parents. District leaders also highlighted improvements in student support services, staff recruitment through the “Grow Your Own” program, and continued work on facility needs. Board Chair Joel Bordewyk said about 90 percent of the plan’s objectives are already completed or well underway, despite the plan running through 2028. Board member Bruce Mews credited the district’s stable leadership team for helping achieve the goals. The board took no action, as the discussion was informational only.

The Jeffers City Council met in regular session on June 22nd at Jeffers City Hall.The council approved the minutes from the June 10 meeting as presented. During the meeting, council members discussed ordinance violations within the city. The council also considered a request to purchase a new pickleball net for the city park, reflecting continued interest in the growing recreational activity. Mayor Prins reported that the Jeffers Senior Center had inquired about assistance with the removal of ash trees. However, the city currently does not have any programs available to provide assistance for ash tree removal. The council unanimously approved payment of bills and the financial report before ending the meeting.
The Sons of Norway Stavanger Lodge in Windom is inviting community members to join a special day trip on Thursday, July 16th, to Granite Falls. The tour includes a visit to the Fagen Fighters World War II Museum, home to one of the nation’s premier collections of restored military aircraft and artifacts. Participants will also enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of Pioneer PBS studios. The trip includes transportation by charter bus, admission to the museum, and a noon meal at Prairie’s Edge Casino. Cost is 50 dollars for veterans and 55 dollars for non-veterans. The event is open to Sons of Norway members, members of the Cottonwood County Historical Society, and the general public. Reservations and payment must be made by July 1st at the Cottonwood County Historical Society Museum in Windom.
