The Windom Area School Board took key steps forward Monday night on childcare, finances, and banking services. The board approved the creation of a new director position for the Soaring Eagles Childcare Center. Superintendent Jamie Frank says recent support from the city has helped move the project ahead.

Frank says the position will begin part-time this summer, before transitioning to full-time around August 1st as the center prepares to open. During discussion, Board Chair Angie Klassen noted one piece of funding is still pending and clarified with Frank that they are waiting on the County to decide if they will support this financially. Frank confirmed that county support is still under consideration. The board ultimately approved moving forward with creating the position. The board also received an update on the district’s financial outlook. Business Manager Holly Anderson reported the district remains in strong shape, with no need for short-term borrowing.

Anderson added the district currently has about 9.5 million dollars in ending balances, with a portion invested to earn additional interest. Finally, the board approved extending its banking contract with Bank Midwest for one more year through July of 2027. Anderson says the extension keeps rates steady while delaying the need for a new round of proposals until next year.
