The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported 33 calls from March 13th to March 15th.Deputies responded to a wide range of calls over the weekend, including a burglary investigation, an arrest related to stolen property, and numerous weather-related incidents during Sunday’s blizzard. On Friday, deputies investigated a suspicious person caught on a Ring camera attempting to enter a home on a farmstead in Sioux Valley Township. The individual left the area before deputies arrived and was not located. Later in the day, deputies responded to a burglary report that remains under investigation. That afternoon, a 46-year-old Jackson man was arrested at a local business for possession of stolen property following a shoplifting complaint. Deputies also handled a disturbance at a Jackson convenience store and assisted with a medical call. Early Saturday morning, deputies responded to a disturbance at a Jackson residence where a male reportedly threatened to shoot up the home. After investigating, a 17-year-old juvenile male from Jackson was arrested on charges including terroristic threats, obstructing legal process, fourth-degree assault on a peace officer, and disorderly conduct. Jackson Fire Department responded to a grass fire north of Jackson.  Sunday’s winter storm led to numerous calls for service across the county. Deputies issued 17 snow emergency parking violations in Jackson early Sunday morning. Throughout the day and evening, dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting vehicles in the ditch or motorists stranded on county roads and highways. Deputies assisted several drivers when possible, but high winds and blizzard conditions prevented tow trucks and responders from reaching some locations until the following morning. One of the most serious incidents occurred Sunday afternoon when dispatch transferred a 911 call reporting a multi-vehicle pile-up on Interstate 90 near Lakefield involving several semi-trucks and passenger vehicles. Lakefield fire and ambulance crews were paged to assist. With area hotels already full due to the storm, the sheriff contacted the Minnesota Duty Officer to open the Jackson Armory as an emergency shelter for stranded motorists. Seven adults and children stayed overnight at the facility. Authorities say many motorists waited safely in their vehicles with adequate fuel until weather conditions improved and tow trucks could reach them Monday morning.
