The Jackson County Central School District School Board heard details Monday evening about recommended budget adjustments as the district works to address financial challenges.  During a school board work session, district administrators explained that like many school districts across Minnesota, JCC is facing declining enrollment and rising operating costs. Enrollment is projected to drop by about 60 students over the next four years, which directly reduces the amount of state funding the district receives. Administrators presented recommended changes aimed at addressing a projected 706-thousand-dollar deficit for the 2025–2026 school year. The district’s fund balance would drop to about 13 percent, just above the school board policy minimum of 12.5 percent. Officials also noted the district’s current operating levy brings in about 460 dollars per student but does not increase with inflation. To help close the gap, the district is proposing more than 603-thousand dollars in adjustments. The recommendations include staffing reductions, supply budget cuts, changes to some activities and programs, and increases in certain fees. The school board will consider approval of the adjustments during a special meeting Monday, March 16th at 5:30 p.m. in the media center at Jackson County Central High School. The full presentation shared with the board is available on the district website for families and community members who want more detailed information.

The Red Rock Central High School National Honor Society is inviting community members to roll up their sleeves and help save lives during its annual blood drive on Wednesday, March 25th from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the high school in Lamberton. Last year’s drive was a big success, with donors helping the school exceed its goal by collecting 82 units. Organizers say they hope the community will once again step up and help them beat that number. The drive supports the region’s blood supply through the American Red Cross. Officials say every donation can help save up to three lives, and the need for blood remains constant. Appointments are encouraged to help the day run smoothly. Donors can sign up online at redcrossblood.org or through the Red Cross Blood Donor App. You can also call Deb Furth at 507-227-3293 or Rachel Karnitz at 507-752-7361 to schedule a time. If the 25th doesn’t work into your schedule, there are other opportunities coming up. March 16th from Noon to 6pm The Sanborn Community encourages you to stop at the Sanborn Ballroom and up to give the gift of life. Windom Women of Today will be hosting a Blood Drive on Wednesday April 15th at the Windom Community Center. Don’t forget, as an added benefit, the Red Cross is currently offering free A1C diabetes screenings for people who donate blood.
