Officers assisted Mt Lake Ambulance on several calls, Assisted MN State Patrol and Windom Police with traffic and driving complaints, assisted resident with questions, investigated unlawful deposit of garbage and advised a property owner of public nuisance violations. Windom Police Department reported 79 calls in the week of February 22nd to February 28th. Officers conducted 1 Civil Dispute, Assisted Other Agencies 4 times, had 19 Directed Patrols, conducted 4 Public Assists, Investigated 1 Suspicious Activity, 1 Suspicious Person, 2 Noise Complaints, 1 Assault and conducted 18 traffic stops. The Jeffers City Council met in regular session Monday night in Jeffers. Chris Webb with the Southwest Regional Development Commission addressed the council about funding options for a possible new fire hall. Webb outlined several grant and low-interest loan opportunities, including programs through USDA Rural Development, Small Cities funding, SC Electric Economic Development, Minnesota Climate Innovation grants tied to solar or heat pump systems, and even the possibility of a congressional appropriation that could fully fund the project. The council also reviewed and unanimously approved a building permit for Sandra Langland. Jeffers Fire Chief Cory Schroeder reported that the Jeffers Fire Department and first responders have received a radio grant. The council voted unanimously to cover the upfront cost of the radios until reimbursement funds are received. Schroeder also requested approval to purchase a new pump and motor for the department’s 2016 skid unit at a cost of seven to eight thousand dollars, to be paid from the Fire Department Equipment Fund. The council unanimously approved that request. Council members approved payment of the bills and the financial report before adjourning.

The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday. While acting as the Ditch Authority, the board approved the 2026 ditch assessments as presented and also approved a Declaration and Covenant agreement with Big Bend Wind, LLC. The board then adjourned as the Ditch Authority and reconvened as the County Board. Commissioners approved an Interim Use Permit for Mathiowetz Construction, extending mining and excavation operations for five years with conditions. Several Conditional Use Permits were also approved, including one for Ryan Swanson to operate a commercial truck sales company, and another for Lee Loewen for shoreline restoration, both with conditions. The board approved multiple equipment purchases through the state bid process, including a 2026 Ram 5500 Crew Cab chassis, a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep for $57,794.75, along with a dump box for $32,247, totaling just over $90,000. Commissioners also approved the purchase of a Schulte batwing mower for $43,184.26, a CAT 275 skid steer loader for $97,044.25, and a Towmaster trailer for $18,595.94. Surplus equipment being replaced will be sold. Commissioners approved Rebekah Saffert as the 2026 Talcot Park Camp Host and authorized a three-year land lease agreement with R.A. Muecke Sand and Gravel, Incorporated, for approximately 6.2 acres beginning August 1st of this year. The board approved March warrants totaling $100,197.97 before adjourning.
