Several communities across southwest Minnesota are receiving major investments in water and wastewater infrastructure through funding awarded by the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority, also known as the MPFA. The MPFA is a state agency that helps cities build, improve, and replace critical public infrastructure like drinking water systems, wastewater treatment facilities, and stormwater projects—often through grants and low-interest loans aimed at protecting public health and the environment.  One of the projects includes the City of Lamberton, which was awarded $323,931 to replace approximately 25 lead wastewater service lines with safer copper lines, improving water quality and reducing potential health risks. Other communities in the region are also benefiting from the funding were Avoca receiving just over $306,000 to help build a connection to the Red Rock Rural Water System, improving access to reliable drinking water. Brewster was awarded nearly $9.5 million to construct a new water treatment facility and the City of Madison received more than $7.3 million for upgrades to its water treatment plant. State officials say these investments help ensure safe drinking water, modern wastewater systems, and long-term infrastructure reliability for communities across Minnesota.
