The City of Windom is inviting residents to help create a NEW park structure at the Kastle Kingdom Design Day Open House on Wednesday, December 10th, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the BARC. Kastle Kingdom, the well-known community playground, was torn down last month due to safety concerns. But efforts are already underway to rebuild it, with the new structure planned for 2026. Throughout the day, the design firm Playgrounds by Leathers will meet with local students to collect ideas for what the next Kastle Kingdom should look like. The evening open house will give community members the chance to offer their own input, view early concept sketches, and learn more about the fundraising and design process moving forward. The event is hosted by the City of Windom and the new nonprofit Friends of Windom Parks. The Windom City Council spent a significant portion of its meeting on Tuesday, reviewing the proposed 2026 city budget. City Administrator Steve Nasby presented the updated budget plan, reminding council members that the preliminary levy had been set earlier this year at a maximum increase of 4.9 percent. After a series of budget sessions and department reviews, the council agreed the final levy increase would come in well below that mark at 3.99 percent. A public hearing was held as part of the budget process. Two residents shared comments, focusing primarily on rising property values and the impact of tax increases. Council members noted that while inflation and project demands continue to pressure city finances, the goal was to keep the levy as low as possible while still meeting essential community needs. The council is expected to certify the levy later this month.

I am SOOOO EXCITED!!! Guess what’s back..THE EAGLE CAM!! It is LIVE AGAIN and according to MN Dept of Natural Resources this season their returning bald eagle pair is already busy at the nest. The camera was repositioned over the summer and upgraded with a new antenna and now offers an even clearer view as the eagles prepare for breeding season. Right now, the pair is adding sticks and soft materials to the nest, a bonding ritual that will pick up as winter deepens. If all goes as expected, by mid-February we may see two or three eggs, with both adults sharing incubation and chick-rearing duties. Last year, this pair successfully fledged two eaglets, and viewers can look forward to watching another season of eagle family life unfold. The original EagleCam habitat camera is also streaming, giving fans a look at the territory where the longtime nest once stood before it fell in 2023. You can watch both cameras live on the Minnesota DNR website at www.mndnr.gov/eaglecam  and on the DNR YouTube channel.
