The City of Windom is celebrating Manufacturing Month with a major investment in local industry. TODAY at noon, city officials will present a $1 million investment check to Premium Iowa Pork at the Windom facility. The funding comes from a Special Appropriations Grant awarded to the city by the Minnesota Legislature in 2023 and distributed by the Department of Employment and Economic Development this week. Half of the funding is forgivable, while the other half is structured as a five-year loan. A key condition required Premium Iowa Pork to create at least 70 new full-time jobs and keep them for five years. That milestone was reached earlier this summer, just months after the facility opened. EDA Director Sonya Wilt praised the achievement, saying this investment is “a strong step forward for Windom’s workforce and the long-term growth of our manufacturing base.” Company leaders will be on hand to talk about current employment, expansion plans, and how the investment will strengthen their presence in Windom.
