38-year-old Jamie Lee Voelker of Windom who is accused of killing his mother is due back in court this week. Jamie Voelker faces two felony charges of second-degree murder in the July 23rd shooting death of his mother, 70-year-old Kathryn Voelker. Authorities say she was shot multiple times when she responded to a call for her to come over to his house in the 1200 Block of River Road, when Kathryn entered the back door, Jamie thought she was an Alien, and an alien ship would take them, so he shot her. Voelker is being held on $1 million bail in the Cottonwood County Jail. Jamie’s next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, August 8th at 10am for what’s called Rule 8 Hearing. A Rule 8 Hearing allows the court to review the charges, confirm the defendant’s identity and legal representation, and determine if bail or conditions of release need to be revisited. It’s also the point where the case may move toward a trial, unless a plea is entered. Jamie Voelker has not yet entered a plea in the case. KDOM will carry updates as we follow the case proceedings through Cottonwood County District Court.
