The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious ATV accident that occurred Monday evening, July 28th, at a rural address near Morgan. Deputies responded to the 28000 block of County Highway 11 around 7:19 p.m. for a report of a rollover ATV crash with injuries. One ATV was involved, and the driver sustained critical injuries. The individual was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital. The driver’s name has not yet been released. Responding agencies included the Morgan Fire Department, Morgan Ambulance, Centra Care Ambulance, and North Air Care. The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.

The Windom Police Department reported 75 calls in the week of July 20th to July 26th. Officers investigated 1 Homicide, took 3 Citizen Complaints, attended to 2 Accidents with no injuries, had 12 Directed Patrols, looked into a Fireworks Call, Responded to a Harassment, Sex Crime, and Verbal Domestic and conducted 26 Traffic Stops. The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners has scheduled a work session for Monday, August 4th, at 9:00 a.m. The meeting will take place at the Cottonwood County Courthouse in Windom. Commissioners will use the session to review and discuss proposed budgets for the 2026 fiscal year. The work session is open to the public, though no official action will be taken during this meeting. The discussion is part of the county’s annual budgeting process as officials work to plan ahead for county operations and services in the coming year.

The Mountain Lake Public School Board will hold a special meeting this morning at 9:00 a.m. in Room 101 of the school. Key agenda items include action on the Long-Term Facilities Maintenance Budget and Plan. Mountain Lake Public Schools, part of Independent School District 173, is committed to educating a diverse student population in a caring and safe environment, with a mission of preparing students for lifelong success. A Loose Change Challenge is Underway to Support a shortfall for 2025 Riverfest. With a goal of raising $7,000 in just 7 days, the community is asked to donate their change by dropping it off at Windom Chamber Office or Bank Midwest this week, or bringing it to the Windom Chamber Booth at Night to Unite which will be inside at the Windom Community Center on Tuesday, August 5th. This is a fun and easy way for the community to help Riverfest, simply by digging out spare coins! The challenge is on!! Organizers say every penny counts, and your loose change can make a real difference. Sooo, empty your pockets, check the couch cushions, and donate your coins to support Riverfest!

The Jeffers City Council held its regular meeting on the 28th. One correction was noted in the minutes from the July 14th meeting, Councilman Schoper, not Determan, seconded the motion to approve the financial report and pay the bills. The council reviewed procedures for selling the city’s old fire truck. Based on guidance from the League of Minnesota Cities, the city may use bids, quotes, or open-market sale methods, depending on the truck’s value. Animal control was discussed following a resident complaint about an unleashed dog. A warning letter was issued to the owner, with a reminder that future violations will result in fines. In public works, Maintenance Supervisor Lance Holmen presented two estimates for tree planting. The council approved moving forward with Blue Stem Nursery of Comfrey. Holmen also reported that he is awaiting a response from the playground equipment company regarding a replacement part for a damaged slide.
