Bank Midwest is alerting customers after a local business fell victim to a sophisticated bank impersonation scam. A scammer claiming to be a Bank Midwest employee contacted the business, warning of suspicious wire transfers. The caller sounded credible, mentioning Florida locations and even specific devices. When the business owner grew concerned, the caller offered to “help” by requesting remote computer access. That access allowed the scammer to use verification codes to complete fraudulent wire transfers. Bank Midwest urges businesses and individuals to remain vigilant. They will never ask for passwords, PINs, or verification codes by phone or email. If something seems off, pause, and call a known Bank Midwest number directly. For help or to report suspicious activity, call 888-902-5662 or visit http://www.BankMidwest.com.

I just have to add my two cents!!! So Listen up everyone… These scammers are getting smarter and more deviant. I received an e-mail from myself! I send a lot of emails to myself to remind me to do something when I don’t have any paper in front of me. Just as I was about to open the e-mail to see what I forgot, I had a thought that I didn’t even have my phone to send an e-mail as I examined a little closer I saw it wasn’t really me! UGGGHHH… our employees also got an e-mail from themselves. BE CAREFUL truly it is easier to call the company directly then to recover everything these scondrials are taking from you with a push of a button. BE SAFE and ALWAYS error on the cautious side.

Filing is now open for a special election to fill a seat on the Mountain Lake Public School Board. Earlier this year, the board extended all members’ terms by one year to align with even-year election cycles. But the resignation of board member Chad Pedersen, with more than half of his term remaining, has prompted a special election. Rena Chantharak was appointed to fill the seat temporarily. The election on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 will determine who serves the remainder of the term through the end of 2028. Filing runs through August 12th. Candidates must submit an affidavit of candidacy and a $2 filing fee which can be found at the Mountain Lake Public School District Office during regular business hours. In Minnesota, to qualify for a local school board position, candidates must be at least 21, an eligible voter, lived in the district for at least 30 days before the election, not be a convicted felon, unless civil rights have been restored and not hold another incompatible office for example, a current school employee or another public office that conflicts. School boards play a vital role in setting policy, guiding budgets, and shaping the future of local education.
