Day Two of testimony wrapped up Tuesday in the murder trial of No Name Given Happy, taking place in Cottonwood County District Court. Court began at 8:30 Tuesday morning with the prosecution calling ten more witnesses to the stand. Among them were an EMT who responded to the scene and another EMT who happened to be inside the bar that night and rushed to help after hearing the commotion. Jurors also heard from an individual who had been involved in what was described as a one-sided fist fight with the accused shortly before the stabbing. Other testimony came from bar patrons—some of whom had been playing pool with the accused—who shared what they saw or heard that night. More Law Enforcement Body Cam and squad car video footage was shown in court and entered into evidence. It’s been especially compelling to hear how each person reacted and why. Their perspectives varied depending on where they were and what they were doing at the time, giving jurors a complex but vivid picture of what happened. While their stories differed in detail, what unfolded that night was described as chaotic. Today, the prosecution will continue to lay out their case. KDOM will continue to follow developments from the courtroom throughout the week.

The Windom City Council held a special meeting Tuesday evening, June 10th, with officials from the Minnesota Department of Transportation to continue planning a proposed roundabout at the intersection of Highways 60 and 71. During the work session, MnDOT presented four possible design alternatives. After discussion, the council made a motion to move forward with Concept D—a 2by 1 roundabout hybrid design—with the condition that MnDOT rework access solutions for both Kwik Trip and Subway, which are directly impacted by the proposed design. The exciting news with this concept is that the four-lanes will be reinstated. MnDOT officials emphasized that the project is not a “bait and switch,” but a necessary safety improvement, and they are committed to working with the city to find the best possible solution for both traffic flow and business access. With a tight timeline, MnDOT and the city must agree on a preferred concept by mid to late June to keep the project on track. A resolution of support is expected to be brought to the council in an upcoming meeting.

An interview with Councilwoman Jenny Quade on this meeting is available on website under PODCAST Button.
