Windom Police Department reported a 1st Degree Burglary on May 31st at 9:36pm in the 600 Block of 16th Street. According to the report, the reporting party stated someone was in his house around 2am. The back door and the door to the garage from the house was wide open, the spare phone on the counter was missing and later found in the backyard, Air pods were stolen and have not been located, $30 was removed from a wallet. It was also noted that the Reporting Party, his wife and kids were all home when this occurred. This is considered a 1st Degree Burglary since the residence was unlawfully entered while people were in the home.

I have to throw in my two cents on this… This is very disturbing to me. How anyone can consciously enter a home without permission is beyond me. I mean your home is supposed to be a safe place let’s not even mention what this will do to the children, not that I know how old they are, but I am old and it creeps me out. It brings me to sending out kudos to all our law enforcement officers whether it is local, county or state level I personally appreciate everything that you do to keep us safe especially when you see or read about someone breaking in WHILE YOU ARE HOME!!! Craziness… In my Opinion.

The Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services Division is warning residents about a new scam involving fake emails and text messages. Scammers are sending messages that appear to come from the “Minnesota Department of Motor Vehicles” or “DPSMN,” claiming there are unpaid penalties or requesting payment. According to DVS Officials, that Agency Name is Fake and so are the fines. DVS reminds Minnesotans they will never send text messages asking for money or claiming payment is due. A warning banner has been added to the official website at www.drive.mn.gov and updates are posted on the Department of Public Safety social media pages.

To stay safe, follow these tips:

  • Always check the exact name of the sender.
  • Do NOT respond or click on any links.
  • Simply delete the message.

Again, these messages are not legitimate. If you have questions, locally you can contact Cottonwood County Recorder, Susan Horkey at 507-831-1458.

Today I want to tip my hat and honor our brave men and women who fought a strategically planned and well executed battle that ultimately led to the end of World War II. On June 6th we annually observe D-Day. More than 75 years after the end of World War II, these memories remain fresh to the over 300,000 living in the US Veterans of the war. The rest of us look to their legacy and the rich history of events told through museums and memorials. Today please take a moment to reflect and remember them from heroic acts on D-Day June 6, 1944. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention it is National Donut Day and Yes, there are donuts at station- while supplies last… If you stop by Joe MAY share one with you…
