Windom’s River Bend Liquor is being recognized at the 2025 Minnesota Municipal Beverage Association(MMBA) with an award for In-Store Experience & Design. According to Manager John Nelson, this award recognizes a retailer that demonstrates an innovative, original and visually enticing in-store experience & design layout. Whether it is a new store with a new design/layout concept, an existing store that has been completely renovated or the implementation of new technologies and tactics that add new value to the in-store shopping experience, the impact on the success of the retailer must be demonstrated. Nelson went on to say that the award will be presented by the MMBA Board of Directors at the 2025 Annual Conference and Annual Meeting on Tuesday April 29th at Arrowwood in Alexandria. There were four other categories that were Best Theme Promotion, Best Innovation, Team of the Year and Community Involvement. Along with receiving recognition and a plaque Nelson said he will also receive $300 to put towards a community project. Nelson went on to clarify that this reward money cannot go to the City General Fund and must be designated for something specific toward the Community. Nelson stated that he hasn’t yet determined what specifically will benefit from this bonus money but he will be reaching out to the Chamber to maybe get some ideas. River Bend Liquor truly did a fantastic overall design in their renovations and personally I feel as though this is a well-deserved recognition and award. If you haven’t been over to see the updated facility you really should pop in and check it out. Congratulations to River Bend Liquor!

The City Council met last Tuesday and were presented with the Windom Area Health Budget Report. CFO John Peyerl reviewed the budgets and showed the Fiscal Year projected 2026 Budget. The Council approved the Budget and had a brief discussion about the Hospital and how they put money back into the community by supporting Health and Wellness projects throughout the year. CEO Shelby Medina spoke on a by-law change. The Governing Board elected to change the by-laws that state Directors may hold office for a term of three years and until his/her successor is duly appointed and qualified unless he/she sooner resigns or is removed. The time line was changed to five years. Medina stated that 9 years seems like a good length of time but with all the changes, movement and growth Windom Area Health is experiencing at this time it is not enough. The Council approved the change from 3 years to 5 years. The Board of Appeal and Equalization for the City of Windom was approved and set for May 6th from 4:30pm-5:30pm at Windom City Hall. This meeting is to determine whether property in the jurisdiction has been properly valued and classified by the Assessor.
