Mountain Lake Police Department had 24 calls from December 30th to January 6th. Officers responded to a caller requesting a check on person living in a storage unit and possibly not having heat. Officers were dispatched to the 700 Block of 4th Ave for a 911 call. Upon investigation, a 22-year-old male from Mt Lake was arrested for Felony Domestic Assault by Strangulation. Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday. Prior to the start of the meeting, Wayne “Gritz” Maras and Kevin Stevens took the oath of Office. The Board then elected Kevin Stevens of Windom as Board Chair and Tom Appel of Mountain Lake as Vice Chair. Motions were made and approved to Adopt Resolution to Use Alternative Method to Disseminate and Receive Bids and Requests, Resolution for Big Bend Snowriders Club and Resolution Bridge Replacement Priority List. The Commissioners appointed Susan Horkey as County Recorder effective March 1, 2025, at a salary of $89,000. The Commissioners moved to keep the position of Assistant County Engineer/Solid Waste Administrator as an Exempt position but allow an overtime rate of 1:1 for this position. Deputy Recorder will be Kristi Hedman effective January 21st and all other employment positions of hire, resignations and termination were approved. Meal Rates for 2025 were set at $11 for breakfast, $17 for lunch, and $22 for dinner and seasonal wages for 2025 were set at 1st year $15.25, 2nd year $15.75, 3rd year $16.25 and 4th year at $16.75. The meeting then went into closed session to discuss strategy for upcoming labor negotiations.

The city of Windom ushered in a new era of leadership on [date], as newly elected officials took their oaths of office during a ceremonial meeting of the City Council. Among the swearing-in was Hilary Mathis, who was officially installed as the city’s new mayor, along with returning Council Member for Ward II Scott Benson and new Council Member for Ward I, Jaysun Sherman. The event marked the beginning of their terms, as they prepare to guide Windom toward its future goals with renewed energy and commitment to the community.
