Redwood County Sheriff’s Office reported a fatal motor vehicle accident on the 31st at 9:10pm on County State Access Highway 1 North of 270th Street. Redwood County Deputies upon arrival stated it appeared the vehicle had left the roadway and entered the ditch where it struck a field approach and utility pole. Upon further investigation the driver of the vehicle identified as Richard Gewerth of rural Morton MN was pronounced deceased at the scene. Assisting agencies were the Minnesota State Patrol and Centra Care Ambulance.

Windom Police Department reported on the 27th at 4:01pm an officer took a report of Damage to Property in the 700 Block of 4th Ave. According to the reporting party his rain gutter drain had been dented and the trim was cracked on the southwest corner of the garage. The damage was caused by another vehicle. Estimated damage will cost less than $100. On the 28th at approximately 6:30pm an officer was dispatched to the 1400 block of 2nd Ave for a damage to property complaint. According to the reporting party her neighbor had been shooting fireworks towards her home causing damage. The officer observed two dents and also a window was shattered. A wrapper for a firecracker was also under her window. This matter remains under investigation.

On the 29th at 11:59am. A 2020 GMC Acadia was traveling Westbound on 10th Street when the driver had an unknown medical problem causing him to crash into the back of a legally parked 2009 Ford Focus on the side of 10th Street which was launched across US Highway 71/60 until it was stopped after knocking over a MN State DOT “No Parking” sign. The GMC then entered the Hy-Vee parking lot, crashing into a legally parked 2002 Ford Excursion. An ambulance was called to the scene. All three vehicles sustained severe damage, and all were towed.

August Weather Stats   9/2/24

The monthly weather statistics have been reported for the city of Windom in August.  The information is compiled by Dave Fjeld, a local weather observer and reported to the National Weather Service Office in Sioux Falls.  The high temperature for the month was 93 degrees on August 25th.  The average high for the month was 80.7 degrees.  The low temperature for August was 50 degrees on August 10th.  We received two and thirty-three hundredths of precipitation for the month compared to an inch and eighty-five hundredths of an inch in 2023.  But, for the year we have received 33 and 63 hundredths of an inch which is fourteen and 28 hundredths of an inch ahead of last year, due to the fourteen and a half inches we received during the flood in June.
