The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Pheasants Forever invite Minnesota hunters to join the Hunter Mentor Challenge and take someone hunting who has never hunted or hasn’t hunted for a few years.
After their hunt, participating Minnesota hunters and their mentees will have the chance to win a limited-edition Pheasants Forever prize.
The program is open to all types of hunting in Minnesota that are legal and in-season — including, but not limited to, pheasants, grouse, waterfowl, deer, squirrels, and wild turkey (applies to fall and spring turkey seasons). Experienced hunters can invite a new hunter of any age, if they have the proper license/tag necessary and either hunter’s safety or apprentice hunter validation.
Participation is simple: hunters visit the Minnesota DNR page on the Pheasants Forever website and take the pledge (pheasantsforever.org/mndnr). After taking the pledge, hunters are asked to bring a novice or returning hunter on a hunt during upcoming hunting seasons and snap a picture or short video during the hunting trip. The last step is to submit contact information, a short summary of their hunt and a photo or video on the submission page to be entered for prize giveaways. All online entries must be received by June 30, 2025.
The Minnesota DNR has helpful information for new hunters and experienced hunters who would like to share their skills with new hunters. To learn more, visit the Minnesota DNR take a friend hunting webpage (mndnr.gov/gohunting/take-friend-hunting.html).

Cheap Flight day… I get the whole travel in style BUT I just flew to Ohio for 59.99 including tax and fees! I had a window seat, chatted with a lovely lady that was going to law school, laughed with a gal that felt terrible because she kicked my seat more than once AND I got to Ohio in less than 2 hours… that is 10 hours less to get to my grandbabies then driving! AND I didn’t have to pay for gas or a hotel room because I got tired! In my book Cheap Flights rule… It’s also National Sponge Cake Day… It’s not a secret I love cake! Cake has been around since the beginning of time and has progressively gotten better and easier to enjoy! Did you know that sponge cake was first created in the mid-16th century by an Italian pastry chef for a Spanish lord. Sponge cake comes in many variations but the most popular is the Victoria Sponge which consists of raspberry jam and whipped cream sandwiched between two layers of sponge, it was named after Queen Victoria who enjoyed a slice every afternoon with her cup of tea… It’s also the start of National Coconut Week! August 23rd to the 30th… I read that coconuts make us reflect on happier, more relaxed times because of the tropical feelings attached to the palm fruit. They are a mulit-faceted fruit because the provide us with milk, water and even oil and these resourceful fruits are even more important in the Philippines where they play a major role in their agriculture and economic sectors. I just know that without the coconut we don’t have pina colada’s and that would be a sad world to live in…
