What a fun night… Night to Unite in Downtown Windom, on Main Street in Mountain Lake and from what I hear a great night in St James as communities came together to celebrate the joy of community and unification.  KDOM had the Giant Jenga out and it was such an emotional rollercoaster as people YOUNG AND OLDER joined in trying their steady hands at a shot of total victory while watching as the final pull made the blocks tumble! Hilarious and breath catching!! Great job and high fives to all those involved in pulling off an extremely fun night. Then I went to Windom City Council Meeting and holy cow it is going to take me a day or two to decipher everything that was covered so be patient… What I DO want to say is my hat is tipped to our City Council Members, Mayor, City Administrator, and EDA Director. I know, I know… You want to tell me that they aren’t doing enough, they only have their own interests at hand, they don’t know what they are doing… BUT I am just going to stop all your negative thoughts right there and say, I am so impressed with What they DO KNOW, What they DO consider, What they Have to consider and the time and thought that each presented last night was very knowledgeable and very well thought out. Discussions were just that. Respectful of each person’s opinions and the presentation of their constituents thoughts. It really made me think our voices are being heard and being presented at Council Meetings. It’s my opinion and no one is going to change my mind, but as I watched the meeting unfold, and sat and listened, I was confused I was impressed but I had a feeling of true community. Maybe it was runover from Night to Unite but there is A LOT going on in our little community and when I first came here and I saw the saying The Little City that would I really didn’t get it… But tonight it occurred to me…Windom is a City that would pull together in a crisis, Windom is a City that would do everything in their power to be inclusive. It is a little city that would stand up for what is right and fight for fairness from big State Departments. Windom is a little City that has elected officials to represent them that would do what their constituents want, not just what they wanted. I’m telling you this City Council meeting was LOADED with information, votes, action items and unbelievable information… I swear I am forming it in my mind to relay it out to you… What’s to come?… Flood and FEMA… Insurance and Legalities… MnDOT that involves 4-lanes and stop lights… Grants and Taxes and an issue for the people to vote on in November. Windom is small with some pretty big issues but I have faith that we have some pretty incredible people fighting behind the scenes taking care of issues that I personally never even thought existed!!!

FEMA presented 3 separate informational releases on the 6th.

Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) teams from FEMA are now available to assist in communities affected by the summer storms and flooding. Teams will help residents navigate the federal assistance process. DSA teams have already started in Cottonwood and St. Louis counties and will move to the other impacted areas in the weeks ahead.

DSA personnel visit communities designated as federal disaster areas to help homeowners and renters apply with FEMA and quickly identify and address immediate and emerging needs. They also can provide application status updates and referrals to additional community resources.

DSA teams will never ask for or accept money and will always be wearing a FEMA identification badge with a photograph. A FEMA shirt, vest or jacket is not proof of identity. While helping someone apply, they will ask for personal information, including social security number, annual income and bank information. Residents are encouraged to ask for identification before providing any personal information. They can also call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 to verify a FEMA visit is legitimate.

Homeowners and renters in Blue Earth, Cook, Cottonwood, Faribault, Freeborn, Goodhue, Itasca, Lake, Le Sueur, Mower, Nicollet, Nobles, St. Louis, Waseca, Jackson, Rice, Rock, Steele and Watonwan counties with uninsured or underinsured disaster-related loss from the June 16 – July 4 severe storms and flooding don’t have to wait for a DSA team to apply for assistance. To apply, visit DisasterAssistance.gov, download the FEMA mobile app or call 800-621-3362. If you use video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA your number for that service when you apply.
