In an update from the Windom Mayor Dominic Jones yesterday he reported that the water levels are still going down. The Des Moines River in Windom last measured at 20.02’ at 9:15 AM on the 8th. This means that the river is now in a “Minor” flooding stage. Cottonwood Lake and Perkins Creek have also seen water visibly receding. Jones went onto say, once the river measures below 17.00’, Windom will be below the “Action” flooding stage. This is because rain events could still drastically change water levels locally. The Emergency Operations Center in Windom recommends that sandbags remain in place until our area is out of the “Action” flooding stage which is currently projected to be around Saturday, July 20. If property owners must move sandbags sooner, they should be placed neatly on the curb to ensure that they are still available in case of any further flooding.

The last day for the The Cottonwood County Debris Dump Site in the West Parking Lot at Windom Area High School will be Saturday July 12th. Current hours for this week are 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. The Cottonwood County Landfill will continue to be open normal hours 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

Damage Assessments FEMA will be conducting a local visit to Windom this week to preliminarily assess damage to private property. The purpose of this visit is for local officials to show the need for Individual Assistance to be available to property owners. As you are cleaning your property, please ensure you are retaining pictures of any damage and debris. This is important for insurance and assessment purposes. Damage assessments are ongoing both in Windom and throughout the County. These are important for showing the extent of damage throughout the area. You can fill out an assessment via phone or other device or by using a printable form. However you feel comfortable it is imperative that you fill out the form to help obtain Individual Assisstance.

If you’d like to report your water damage using your phone or other device, there is a simple virtual report/survey at https://arcg.is/1KSXPf  Cottonwood County residents (outside the City of Windom) are invited to use this virtual report to report damage. Printable forms are available on the City of Windom website https://windom-mn.com/damage-matrix-and-damage-assessments/  or on the Cottonwood County website https://www.co.cottonwood.mn.us/ . Please submit one of the two reports, in your preferred method (if you have not already).

Water conservation remains important. Please be conscious about water use. Mayor Jones stated the community has been doing a great job on this continued need so far and they appreciate your commitment to helping conserve water!
