I love this weekend.. Not only because it is a three day weekend but it signifies the kickoff to summer celebrations and I get to wear my white pants and shoes again. Yes, my momma ingrained that into my head and for some reason I feel like I am going to get arrested or something if caught wearing white before Memorial or after Labor Day… It IS A THING!!! As I was looking into what to celebrate today there were three things that just all tied together. It is National Brothers Day, National Mike Day and National Asparagus Day! How do these three things tie together? Whether you want it or not, I am going to tell you. I have said it before and I’ll say it again, I am the youngest of 5. I have a brother Mike and when we were younger and my mom would serve asparagus which I absolutely hated as a kid, my brother Mike would say let me show you how you eat those. I caught on fast and before you know the lesson was over and my asparagus was cleaned off my plate! NOW THAT is a good brother. I will also celebrate my brother Mark but I’ll save the stories for later just because I have the triple effect with Mike today. That doesn’t happen very often. So celebrate you brothers ESPECIALLY if they are named Mike, and eat the versatile vegetable that can be pan-seared, baked, fried, or grilled. And I am sure you will all be happy to know that I absolutely love asparagus now as an adult. Going into the weekend we can celebrate national Cooler Day today too! Fill up that cooler but remember to celebrate responsibly.

MnDOT to host Hwy 60 open house June 4 in Windom

MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the public to attend an open house for the Hwy 60 Windom project on Tuesday, June 4 from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Windom Community Center, 1750 Cottonwood Lake Dr.

During the open house style meeting, attendees can learn more about plans for 2025 construction, as well as the proposed restriping of four to three lanes. There is no formal presentation and people are welcome to arrive at any time. Following the open house, there will be a public hearing on the project during the Windom City Council meeting starting at 6:30 p.m.

In 2025, MnDOT will replace the signals and make Americans with Disabilities upgrades at the Hwy 60 intersections with 6th St. and 10th St. in Windom. MnDOT is also proposing to restripe a three-lane configuration as a pilot for community demonstration, consisting of one through lane in each direction and a center left turn lane. The pilot is based on a preferred option from the 2019-2021 Hwy 60 Windom Corridor Study, with a goal of improving safety and traffic flow while maintaining business access through the city.

Get more information, sign up for email updates, and watch a fly-through video on the project website mndot.gov/d7/projects/hwy60windompilot.
