The Cottonwood County Historical Society invites the community to their Annual Meeting on Sunday, November 5th at 2pm. After a short business meeting there will be a program “Hobos to High-Heeled Women: Riding the Currie Line” by Janet Timmerman. She will highlight the stories and history related to the 38 miles of railroad from Bingham Lake to Currie. She is the retired Director of Museums at Murray County Historical Museum in Slayton. She has local history in her bones and has worked in the field for over 25 years. Members and individuals interested in local history are invited to attend the Cottonwood County Historical Society’s Annual Meeting. Refreshments will be provided after the meeting. You will also be able to check out the exhibit in the Remick Gallery “Four Seasons: Art in Paper” by Eva Lopez showcasing over 20 art works made of paper. There will be door prizes! Windom Police Department reported on the 27th an officer received a report of damage at 5:35am to property at American Family Insurance-Windom. The front door had been broken. Damage was caused by a rock and there was glass on the inside carpet and a large rock lying between the front desk and the wall. On the 28th at 7:50am an officer received a report from a Windom resident who stated he owns a garage near the river in the 100 block of Miller Ave. Sometime in the last week or two someone had cut his garden hose and extension cord. Estimated damage is $100

The Minnesota State Patrol reported on Saturday the 28th, at approximately 7:32pm a 2007 Toyota Tacoma was traveling eastbound on Highway 60 in Mountain Lake Township when the driver a 59-year-old female from St James lost control of the vehicle, the vehicle left the roadway, hit a guardrail, and rolled.
The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Windom Area Hospital. Her passenger, a 58-year-old male of Saint James, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to Windom Area Hospital
Assistance was provided by the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, Mountain Lake Police Department and Mountain Lake Fire Department.

On the morning of the 26th, the Nicollet County Dispatch Center received a call from 39-year-old Casey Narvaez from Sleepy Eye who was speaking incoherently about how he was alive. Upon investigation officers found Navaez standing outside of a vehicle with cable ties around his neck and a dryer vent tubing attached to the exhaust pipe of the vehicle. Inside the vehicle officers discovered a deceased woman body also with cable ties around her neck. Initially Narvaez was accused of attempting suicide and aiding in the suicide of the woman near a boat landing in Ridgely Township. After autopsy results and further investigation Narvaez now faces two felony charges, which include second degree murder and aiding suicide. Narvaez appeared in court Friday afternoon. Bail is set at $800,000 witdchout conditions and $400,000 with conditions.
