During the Windom City Council meeting last week, council members had a wide-ranging discussion about the new cannabis law that goes into effect on August 1st, 2023. Windom Mayor Dominic Jones wonders if Cottonwood County would facilitate the ordinances and help determine the number of dispensaries in the county…

Once the new cannabis law goes into effect on August 1st, the minimum requirement is to allow one place to sell THC products within a population of 12,500 people.  The Windom City Council decided to seek more feedback and information to learn more about the new cannabis law and will have another discussion on the topic at their next meeting.


The Windom Board of Education has their regular meeting tonight starting at 6:30pm in the Windom City Council Chamber. On the agenda are approving staff resignations effective at the end of the 2022-2023 school year, approving staff hirings effective at the start of the 2023-2024 school year, receive administrative reports, PreK-5th grade report, 6th grade-12th grade report, the Superintendent report, and act on many agenda items. The University of Minnesota and North Dakota State University Extension will be hosting a feeder lamb management and marketing webinar on Wednesday, June 14th at 7:30pm. During the webinar, a panel of talented lamb feeders will discuss a variety of topics for both big and small sheep farmers to provide information on how to make the decision to feed or market your lambs after recent cost of production and volatility, plus be able to learn from the experts about how to prepare lambs for your feeding operation, and ask any questions you may have.

The 2023 Summer Food Service program started last week and runs through August 18th. They’ll be two locations this year, one at the Windom Area Elementary School cafeteria located at 1200 17th street in Windom and the other at the Highland Early Childhood Center cafeteria located at 68 10th street in Windom. Both locations for the Summer Food Service Program will be open for an hour from 11:30am to 12:30pm. These summer meals are available for free to ages 18 and under and for students over 18 with disabilities, but you do have to eat these meals at the school site cafeterias. Accompanying adults can also purchase a lunch for $5. Please note that they will not be serving summer meals on June 19th, July 3rd, and July 4th.
