The Windom City Council recently took a tour of some of the city owned facilities in our community.  KDOM sat down with Council Person Jenny Quade and discussed her thoughts on the facilities they toured.  Each day during the Noon Hour News time we will be featuring one building on the tour.  Today we learn  about Mayflower Park and The City Street Department. .

On Monday May 30th, the Windom American Legion Post 206 will be holding a Memorial Day Program at 10:30 am at the Windom Community Center. Master of Ceremonies will be Bryan Joyce, Guest speaker Eric Ahlness, Musical Entertainment by the Chordhustlers. The Program will include introductions of this years Girls and Boys Staters, Dignitaries and presentation of Awards and Announcements. There will be a luncheon at the Windom Community Center following the ceremonies at the Lakeview Cemetery for a small fee of $8. The Windom American Legion Post 206 invites everyone to attend the Program and to join them at Lakeview Cemetery to see the Avenue of Flags and witness the posting of wreaths, firing of weapons and Taps.

Mountain Lake Police Department had 16 calls last week. On May 22nd Officers delt with a  vandalism call at Maynard’s Food Center and a Dog at Large in the 400 block of Cottonwood Drive. The dog was returned to its owner. On the 20th at approximately 2:15 am Mt Lake Officer assisted Nobles County with a vehicle pursuit. A 21-year-old female was arrested. On the 19th Officers responded to a fire call in the 2000 Block of 3rd Ave. The explosing system went off, there were no flames but there was smoke. A dog a large was returned to its owners, A driver in the 400 block of Cottonwood Drive was cited for driving after revocation and their plates were impounded. An Adult Male was arrested on a warrant and an officer cleared debris from the roadway at the intersection of County Road 1 and Box Elder. On May 18th at approximately 2am a report was taken of a vulnerable adult, this is under investigation. At 10:42 pm an officer handled a call on a sexual assault that remains under investigation and at 9:52pm a call of suspicious people by the dam, turned out to be youth fishing. The officer educated the youth of the fishing laws and why their conduct was a violation of fishing regulations. On the 17th an Officer issued a warning to an owner for a barking dog. On May 17th at approximately 11:30 am Mt Lake Officer took a report of a person selling drugs, this remains under investigation. In the early afternoon an Officer handled a Civil Dispute. Late Afternoon Officers reported a non-injury accident where a vehicle went off roadway at the intersection of 3rd Ave and Highway 60 in Mountain Lake and crashed into private property. And at approximately 11:30 pm Officer secured an Open Door in the 900 Block of 3rd Ave.

Windom School Board met this week and approved all hiring and resignations. Palmer Bus agreement was approved with discussion on some new technologies coming to the bus system. Starting this Fall due to obtaining a grant, all busses will be equipped with new Stop Arm Cameras. And working in the future hopefully in 2023 a new GPS program called Stop Finder. This System allows Parents to log onto their account and find where their child is on the bus in relation to where their bus stop is located. A presentation from Elsa Mendoza, the High School Spanish Teacher on the potential of a Windom Schools Spanish Learning Trip in 2024 to Costa Rica. Students must be in 11th and 12th Grade and must taken both Spanish 1 & 2 or Heritage with a passing grade. There would be a Maximum of 20 students with 5 chaperones not including Mendoza. The Board will put on the June 13th Agenda for approval. The Board then discussed the Solar Project and approved a motion to direct the Superintendents to delay the grant application to August so the contract can be further reviewed and sorted out. This would move the Solar Project to begin in the Spring or Summer of 2023.
