Windom Police Department reported on March 15th the City of Windom called in and requested an officer to come do a report on damage found to a City of Windom Pole on John Caldwell Drive. Unknown amount of damage at this time.

Also, on the 15th Windom Police were dispatched to 2270 Hwy 60 (AmericInn) for a theft of gasoline from a vehicle. A report of $100 worth of gas was stolen from an out-of-town guest vehicle by someone using a drill bit to leak gas out of the gas tank. Drill bit was still inside the tank.

On March 14th Windom Police received a report of Damage to Property in the 1500 block of 17th Street. Damage was done to a 2017 Chevy Silverado with scratches on the passenger side bumper below the taillights, unknown dollar damage amount at this time. This matter is still under investigation.

Also, on the 14th there was an accident at the intersection of 15th Avenue and River Road. A 2021 Chevy Traverse was stopped at a stop sign facing west on 15th Ave waiting for Northbound traffic to have an opening to merge into River Road. A 2010 Chevy HHR was driving west on 15th Ave when the two vehicles collided. Both vehicles obtained moderate disabling damage and both vehicles were towed. No injuries reported.

The Windom School Board has announced they have selected Three finalists selected for Windom superintendent position. The finalists are:

  • Katie Clark, Principal and Director of Teaching and Learning with the Worthington School district in Worthington, MN
  • Jamie Frank, PreK-5 Principal with the Windom Area Schools in Windom, MN
  • Darrin Strosahl, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Chief Operating Officer at the Northwest Technical College in Bemidji, MN

The finalists were selected from a pool of six applicants based on criteria established by the school board. The school board has scheduled interviews for the finalists beginning at 4:00 pm on March 16, 2021.

All interviews will be at the Windom High School Media Center and are open to the public.

The Jeffers City Council met in REGULAR session on March 14, 2022.

Mayor Prins reported that he did not reach the property owner of the vacant house but will continue to try to reach out. The Council adopted the following Resolutions:

  • RESOLUTION #2022-03 TO ELECT THE STANDARD ALLOWANCE AVAILABLE UNDER THE REVENUE LOSS PROVISION OF THE CORONAVIRUS LOCAL FISCAL RECOVERY FUND ESTABLISHED UNDER THE AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN ACT
  • RESOLUTION #2022-04 AUTHORIZING TRANSFERRING OF FUNDS
  • Burkhardt & Burkhardt auditors will be at the city to do the fieldwork for the audit on Thursday, March 17th.
  • A motion was carried to place Tyson Anderson on the agenda for the March 28th meeting regarding annexing property to the city.

The Economic Development Authority of Windom met on Monday March 14th. Cemstone was granted a conditional use permit by the City to allow the construction of the concrete plant on Lot 1 Block 2 in the North Windom Industrial Park. Cemstone applied for a height variance to allow construction of a silo with a potential height of 80 feet on the property. The Planning Commission recommended approval and this was presented at the City Council meeting.

The EDA Development approved an Agreement with Voss Plumbing and Heating for the proposed South Cottonwood Lake Subdivision. And also approved a  Development Agreement with Apollo Development for the market rate apartment building in the proposed South Cottonwood Lake Subdivision.

Two extensions were approved by the Authority for the EDA SPEC Building HyLife Apartment Project to May 16th and for the River Bed Phase II to April 29th. Higley Ford was granted the commercial rehab loan for new lighting.

Jim Hartshorn was introduced as the replacement for Drew Hage Development Director who will be leaving at the end of March. Jim has 30-years of Economic development experience
