The Windom Police Department reported a warrant arrest and a school bus stop-arm violation in two separate incidents earlier this week. On Monday, November 2nd, at approximately 5:54 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Highway 71 and 6th Avenue South for expired vehicle registration. During the stop, the officer identified the driver as a 53-year-old Windom man who had an outstanding child support warrant from Michigan. The man acknowledged the warrant, and authorities also confirmed an outstanding warrant from Florida. The incident was cleared by arrest. On Tuesday the 3rd, police received information regarding a school bus stop-arm violation in the 100 block of 10th Street in Windom. Following an investigation, a 67-year-old Windom man was issued a misdemeanor citation for failing to stop for a school bus stop arm.

As we head into the colder months, there’s plenty of conversation about flu shots and protecting ourselves from seasonal illnesses. But there’s another vaccination that many adults may not realize they should be asking about the pneumonia vaccine. KDOM recently visited with Missy Edmundson, Chief Pharmacist at Lewis Family Drug in Windom, about vaccinations and staying healthy this winter. Edmundson says there are newer pneumococcal vaccines available, and for many adults, getting protected may be simpler than they think.
“There’s newer ones called PCV20 and PCV21. Those vaccines are a one and done, so you get one, and as long as the recommendations do not change, you’re good for the rest of your life.”
However, not everyone needs the same vaccine. Age, medical history, and previous vaccinations all play a role in determining what’s recommended.
“There are algorithms out there, so we can punch in your age, which ones you’ve had, and then recommend the best pneumococcal vaccine for you.”
Current CDC recommendations include pneumococcal vaccination for adults 50 and older, as well as younger adults with certain health conditions or risk factors. A pharmacist or healthcare provider can review your vaccination history to determine what you need. And pneumonia vaccinations are just one part of staying healthy. Beginning Monday, KDOM will bring you a special three-part series with Edmundson covering the 2026–2027 flu season. We’ll find out whether it’s too late to get vaccinated, how to recognize the difference between influenza, COVID-19, and a common cold, and what families can do to prevent illness from spreading throughout their homes. Join us next week for a three part series on practical advice to help keep you and your family healthier this winter.

Yee Gads it is Friday already!!! I’m not complaining mind you because I know for a fact that we get to go to Mountain Lake tonight for the Annual Borscht Supper at the Mountain Lake Christian School. This soup feed literally feeds you till your belly is full of homemade soup and homemade breads and pie! The Community Spirit is Alive and Joyful and the service is excellent. I hope to see you there!! They are serving from 4:30-8pm. I had a dream last night about being pen pals with my grandkids. I believe the art of writing letters is a lost treasure. I can remember writing letters to my grandparents and aunts and uncles and even my sister and brothers as they slowly moved out of the house and into their own lives. With texting and e-mails I have fallen into the category of forgetfulness to put the letter in the mail. I think of the letter I am going to write and then fall victim to time and stress and just don’t. I read a really good book called The Correspondent by Virginia Evans. It was all about a lady and her corresponding through letters and notes and even moving into e-mail. I LOVED this book because it truly is all about-as the book put it, “the beauty of slowing down to reconnect with the people we love”. There is something very special about getting a personal letter in the mail. Yes, in person thank-you’s and dropping a text or e-mail to “catch-up” is amazing too… BUT nothing matches getting that piece of paper in the mail that makes you feel so special. I always thought of it as sending a hug in the mail because the recipient would be holding your very words. Today is National Fountain Pen Day. It is a day to celebrate the timeless art of writing with fountain pens and appreciating the craftsmanship, smooth ink flow, and personal expression these classic instruments offer. Take a minute and actually jot down a note to send to anyone today. I guarantee you when you deliver it, you’ll feel the rush of connection and joy. It’s also Marooned without a compass Day… I think I’d rather be writing then confronting where I am and where I am going… I know I need a re-evaluation of the path I am on and need to reset my intentions but for today I think I will just enjoy sharing joyful thoughts with my pen…
