One donation, 27 organizations, and a whole lot of community caring! The Windom Women of Today have kicked off their annual United Service Drive, with a goal of raising $20,000 to benefit nonprofit organizations serving the Windom community. During a recent KDOM Kaleidoscope interview, Chairpersons Judy Markl and Monica Mueller explained that the United Service Drive is different from other fundraising campaigns because it’s organized entirely by volunteers.

“This here is strictly done by donated charity—well, our donated time. Our volunteer time, I guess… No, zero. Nobody gets paid to do this, so it’s all volunteer work.”

Mueller went onto say that with the exception of mailing and printing expenses, all donations go directly to the organizations being supported. This year’s drive includes four new organizations: the Windom Schools Education Foundation, Friends of the Windom Parks, the Windom PTO, and the Every Meal Weekend Food Program, better known as the Backpack Program. Mueller says the purpose of the drive has always been about making Windom a better place.

“But like I said, we are here to support Windom and make it a better community, and we always kind of have this logo of Show Windom Cares.”

Yellow donation cards have been mailed to area property owners. Donors can choose which organizations receive their contributions or allow their donation to be divided among all 27 organizations. According to Markl, last year’s drive raised $20,726, exceeding its $20,000 goal and they would love to repeat this year. Donation cards are also available at Bank Midwest, United Prairie Bank, Leading Edge Credit Union, the Windom Area Chamber of Commerce, and BARC. Donations can be mailed to United Service Drive, P.O. Box 222, Windom, Minnesota. For additional information, contact Monica Mueller at 507-220-8326. Show how Windom Cares! Because when everyone gives a little, together we can make a BIG difference!
