The Mountain Lake City Council is seeking more information on rising costs for the new fire and ambulance hall. At Monday’s City Council meeting, developer Bob Machacek requested additional city funding to help cover project expenses. Council members took no action, saying they need a detailed breakdown of the additional costs before considering the request. The Mt Lake council also agreed to delay applying for grants for the Fourth and Fifteenth Street improvement project, estimated to cost up to 3.7 million dollars. Officials say the available grants would cover about 2 million dollars, and the city is already managing several major projects. Meanwhile, the council approved environmental and historic-resource reviews for the proposed second phase of Lakeview Estates, which could add 14 residential lots. The council also tabled proposals for a city website redesign while reviewing accessibility requirements.

Has anyone been a day late and a dollar short all week? I cannot believe it is Friday already!!! It’s National Beer and Pizza Day… I am all in… AS long as both have green olives in and on them… It’s also Moldy Cheese Day. I can definitely get into this celebration because just yesterday I opened the cheese drawer and wished I had done it two days ago so I could have thrown out all the moldy cheese with garbage day… The day is actually to encourage people to appreciate the science and craftsmanship behind mold-ripened cheeses such as Blue Cheese, Brie, Roquefort and Camembert. I like them all but I usually end up with the moldy provolone, swiss, and cheddar. Maybe that is what I should concentrate on today is why we eat one kind of moldy cheese and toss the other… All I know is I am glad for Amo Creamery taking care of my new found love cheese curds needs, AND HyVee and Maynards that have a fantastic array of different fresh cheeses for me when I need them! Enjoy the weather eat a cheese stick and ponder the moldy side of cheese!
