The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a one-vehicle accident that occurred Sunday morning near the intersection of County Highway 15 and Jade Avenue. According to a news release, deputies responded shortly after 11:10 a.m. on September 13th. Investigators say the vehicle left the roadway, traveled into both the south and north ditches, and then entered a cornfield before coming to a stop. The driver, identified as Thomas Lammers, was found walking westbound from the accident scene. He was later transported by ambulance to Sleepy Eye Medical Center with suspected injuries. The Sheriff’s Office says impairment is suspected, and charges are pending as the incident remains under investigation. The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Lamberton Fire Department, Lamberton Ambulance, and CentraCare Ambulance.

Windom Police Department reported 111 calls in the week of September 6th to September 12th. Among the calls handled during the week were one arrest, one impaired driving incident, three concerns for welfare, two juvenile runaway reports, and one harassment complaint. Officers also responded to five accidents with no injuries, three suspicious person calls, two suspicious vehicle reports, and two computer or phone scams. Other activity included animal calls, driving complaints, motorist assists, two warrants, and 44 traffic stops. The Windom Area School Board approved a new two-year agreement with the Windom Education Support Professionals during its meeting Monday evening. The agreement covers the district’s custodial, food service and office professional employees and runs from July 1st, 2026 through June 30th, 2028. The two-year package represents a 7.15 percent increase, or approximately $96,436. Under the agreement, employees will receive a 59-cent increase to hourly wages in the first year and a two-percent salary increase in the second year. The district’s contribution toward insurance will increase five percent each year. The contract also includes several language changes, including allowing eligible employees to receive payment for up to two unused personal days each year. The agreement also includes updated language related to a 12-month food service position and Minnesota Paid Leave. District and WESP representatives had reached a tentative agreement during negotiations in August.

Federated Rural Electric held its 91st Annual Meeting September 10th at the Jackson National Guard Armory, drawing a sizable crowd for the meeting, food, Bingo and prizes. A total of 879 members voted by mail, with another 54 voting in person. Members re-elected Glenn Dicks of Lakefield as District 1 director and Troy Post of Brewster as District 2 director. A bylaws amendment allowing Nominating Committee members to serve two consecutive four-year terms also passed 863 to 30. During a member question-and-answer session, discussion included electric rates, Federated’s building renovation, broadband expansion and the proposed 765-kilovolt transmission line. General Manager Scott Reimer encouraged concerned landowners to submit comments to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission. Federated also reported that investments in broadband, building improvements and electric line upgrades mean the cooperative will pause its 20-year capital credits retirement this year, with hopes of resuming distributions to member-owners next year. Board President David Meschke addressed questions about data centers, saying they will pay for the cost of new power under their own rate structure and that existing cooperative members will not bear those costs. Federated also continues to expand its fiber network through grant-funded projects in Jackson, Martin and Cottonwood Counties. Federated Rural Electric serves approximately 5,300 members in Jackson and Martin Counties.
