Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported 45 calls from September 1st to September 7th. Among the calls, deputies responded to domestic disturbances, assaults, civil disputes, welfare checks, alarms, driving complaints and other incidents throughout the county. Several arrests were made during the week, including individuals wanted on outstanding warrants. A 57-year-old Windom man was arrested in Heron Lake for DUI test refusal and driving with a canceled license. Early Monday morning, two people were arrested following an erratic driving complaint on I-90 near Jackson. Both were arrested for DUI, with one also facing a charge of third-degree damage to property involving a squad car. Deputies also handled several traffic violations, including drivers cited for speeds of 94 and 96 miles per hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone on I-90. Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported 75 calls in the week of August 30th to September 5th. Deputies conducted 14 Civil Processes, 1 Concern for Welfare and 26 Traffic Stops. Deputies responded to 1 Juvenile Runaway, 2 Disturbances, 1 Domestic Assault, 1 Civil Dispute, 1 Dead on Arrival and 1 Assault. Deputies investigated 1 Death, 1 Suspicious Person, 3 Suspicious Vehicles, 1 Theft and 4 Driving Complaints. Redwood County Sheriff Jason Jacobson is encouraging area students pursuing careers in law enforcement to apply for the 2026 Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association Law Enforcement Scholarship Program. The Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association Board of Directors has established a scholarship fund that will award up to 18 scholarships of $2,000 each this year. The program is made possible through the coordinated efforts of Minnesota’s 87 elected sheriffs. The scholarships are intended to help students with the costs associated with the education and training required to enter the law enforcement profession. Sheriff Jacobson stated that they are extremely fortunate to have qualified local candidates willing to serve our communities. These scholarships demonstrate a strong commitment to the next generation of law enforcement. Scholarships are available to students currently enrolled in a mandated POST Skills Program, students in their second year of a two-year law enforcement program, or students in their third or fourth year of a four-year college criminal justice program. Applicants must have completed at least one year of a two-year program or two years of a four-year program to qualify. The Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association Scholarship Committee will work to select recipients representing geographical areas throughout the state. Applications are due November 30th, 2026, with scholarship recipients expected to be announced at the beginning of 2027. The City of Windom has officially soft launched its newly redesigned website, bringing a new look and several updated features aimed at making city information easier for residents to access. City Administrator Steve Nasby told council members the website project was funded in a prior year and had now reached the point where the new site was ready. The City’s new website can be found at www.windommn.gov . Nasby noted that the change to the .gov web address was required by statute. Those who visit the City’s previous website address will be redirected to the new site. The new website is powered by Revize, LLC, a company specializing in government websites, and is part of the City’s effort to modernize the way it communicates and provides information to residents. Among the new features is a responsive design that allows the site to work across computers, tablets and mobile devices. The entire website can also be translated into approximately 80 different languages with a single click and includes advanced accessibility features. Residents will also find a searchable document center, a homepage alert feature for important notices and the ability for mobile users to directly call phone numbers listed on the site. According to Nasby, because the website is currently in a “soft launch,” residents may continue to see changes, additions and updates as the City completes the transition to the redesigned site. Residents are encouraged to visit windommn.gov and become familiar with the City’s new website and its updated features.
