MN State Patrol reported on the 6th at approximately 1:32pm a 2006 Ford Mustang was traveling northbound on Highway 267 when the vehicle driven by a 16-year-old female of Slayton, lost control and left the roadway and rolled both the driver and her 18-year-old passenger of Lennox were transported to the Slayton Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts. Outside agencies assisting were Murray County Sheriff’s Office, Slayton Fire and EMS.

A Mountain Lake man is facing a felony charge following an investigation into alleged sexual abuse of a child. Forty-one-year-old Tkoel Iyechad of Mountain Lake is facing a charge in Cottonwood County District Court. According to court documents, the charge is Criminal Sexual Conduct in the First Degree Penetration or Contact with a Person Under 13, Actor More Than 36 Months Older, under Minnesota Statute 609.342.1(a). It is a felony. According to the criminal complaint, police were contacted in July after a report of possible child sexual abuse. Investigators say the alleged abuse occurred at a Cottonwood County residence over a period of about a year, beginning when the victim was in elementary school. A forensic interview was conducted as part of the investigation, and additional information was provided to investigators. The charge was filed in Cottonwood County District Court on August 6th. Court documents show bail was set at $60,000 without conditions, or $10,000 with conditions.

TODAY’S MEETINGS INCLUDE:
- The Windom Economic Development Authority meets today at noon at Windom City Hall, with several economic development issues on the agenda. The EDA will review an appraisal of three available lots in the North Windom Industrial Park. A proposed pet crematory will not be moving forward at this time, after the applicant decided not to submit an offer for the property. The EDA will discuss pricing for the available lots in closed session. The board will also consider a six-thousand-dollar child care provider loan request from Roots to Wings Child Care. The funding would help pay for about $6,800 in bathroom renovations at the daycare. Other items include the upcoming sale of the Lakeside Apartments property, a change in the mortgage holder for River Bluff Townhomes, and repayment of a DEED redevelopment grant connected to the former Cemstone property. The first DEED repayment of $21,245 is due August 15th. EDA staff is recommending future annual payments of about $42,491 until the required residential development is completed.
- The Windom Area School Board at 5:30 p.m. in the Windom City Council Chambers. Board members are expected to consider a new two-year contract for paraprofessionals, approve several district policies, review the district’s financial cash flow report, and consider keeping adult breakfast and lunch prices unchanged for the 2026-2027 school year. The board will also act on several staffing changes, including new hires for the district and the Soaring Eagles Child Care Center, hear administrative reports from each school, and receive the superintendent’s report. The meeting is open to the public and will also be streamed live on YouTube via Media SB22.
- The Mountain Lake City Council will meet tonight at 5:45 p.m. at Mountain Lake City Hall. Among the items on the agenda are an update on lead service lines, discussion of downtown beautification projects, an assessment of the Hiebert Greenhouse building, and a discussion on roles and responsibilities. The council will also discuss a proposed data center and hear the Mountain Lake Police Department’s 2025 annual report.

Tomorrow is Primary Election Day in Minnesota, so here’s your KDOM “Know Before You Vote” checklist. The Minnesota State Primary is tomorrow Tuesday, August 11th. If you are not sure where you’re supposed to vote, or not sure which candidates or questions will be on your ballot- go to www.mnvotes.gov and use the “What’s On My Ballot” and Polling Place Finder tools. You can enter your information and see your sample ballot and polling location. And one more important reminder for Tuesday: Minnesota has a partisan primary. You choose one political party’s ballot and vote within that party’s primary. You don’t vote for candidates from multiple political parties. The August primary is about choosing which candidates will move forward to the November 3rd General Election. So before you head out tomorrow, take a minute, know your polling place, know what’s on your ballot and make your voice heard. There is ample time to exercise your right to vote. SO DO IT!!!!
