The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners met Tuesday for their regular meeting, taking action on several items involving county finances, policies, property and personnel. Commissioners approved an amendment to the Minnesota Clean Water Partnership Project Implementation Loan Agreement and authorized the Auditor-Treasurer to digitally sign the agreement. The board also approved a Conditional Use Permit for Michael Olsem to build a dwelling in a shoreland area, with conditions. Commissioners approved allowing the final billing from Nickel Construction for cleanup on a county parcel to be repaid through a five-year tax assessment at three percent interest. The County Attorney was authorized to enter into a three-year legal research subscription with LexisNexis at a total cost of just over 21-thousand dollars. Commissioners also approved a five-percent increase in 2027 rental rates for several county-leased spaces, approved proposed changes to the county’s payroll policy for a 30-day public comment period, and promoted Nathan Wildermuth to Senior Appraiser. The board approved August warrants totaling 283-thousand, 690 dollars and 63 cents. The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, August 11th at 9 a.m. at the Cottonwood County Courthouse in Windom. The meeting will focus on the 2027 county budget.

The 58th Annual Steam and Gas Engine Show is set to kick off next week at Voss Park in Butterfield, running August 14th to August 16th. Presented by the Butterfield Threshermen’s Association, the weekend features threshing demonstrations, antique cars and tractors, historic buildings, a tractor and truck pull, live music, and plenty of food. This year’s featured automobile is the classic Model T, and the featured tractors are from Case. Demonstrations will take place on 19 acres, with wheat to thresh, corn to pick, and silage to cut. KNOW BEFORE YOU VOTE — PART THREE
On today’s “Know Before You Vote,” we’re looking at the Congressional race that will appear on ballots in much of the KDOM listening area. Windom and much of western Minnesota are part of Minnesota’s Seventh Congressional District.
Republican Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach is seeking re-election. There is no Republican primary challenger, so Fischbach will advance to the November ballot. There are two candidates competing for the Democratic-Farmer-Labor nomination. They are Erik Osberg and Steve Carlson. The August 11th primary will determine which of those two candidates will move forward to the November 3rd General Election. A quick reminder for listeners in Jackson County. Jackson County is part of Minnesota’s First Congressional District, so voters there will see a different Congressional race on their primary ballot. In District One, Republicans Brad Finstad, Gregory Goetzman and Oliver Morlan are competing in their party’s primary, while Democrats Alex Eaton and Jake Johnson are competing for the DFL nomination. So, depending on where you live, your Congressional race may be different. If you’re unsure which district you’re in or what candidates you’ll see, check your sample ballot at mnvotes.gov.

It’s Cycle to Work Day… I think I am staying home so that is going to work out perfectly for me!!! My poor bike has only been ridden maybe 4 times in the past 9 years! Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy bike riding but I am pretty sure it would not be very well received if I showed up in a pool of sweat! I am digging that it is National Water Balloon Day I think I will fill up a few and throw them at all the passer byers! THAT I can get on board with!
