The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department reported 45 calls in the week of July 26th to August 1st. Among the calls were three reports of domestic assault, four warrant-related calls, two reports of suspicious persons, and one report involving terroristic threats. Deputies also responded to an ATV accident, an accident with injuries, a missing person report, a computer or phone scam, a disturbance, and a concern for welfare. The Windom Police Department submitted their July 2026 Monthly Crime Report. They had 12 Adult Arrests, 1 Juvenile Arrest and served 4 Warrants with a total of 581 Calls for Service for the month. There were 19 Accidents with 7 injuries and 3 DUI’s. Windom Police Officers issued a total of 152 Traffic Violations and Warnings for the month of April. The Cottonwood County Fair officially gets underway today at the fairgrounds, with 4-H’ers busy all week entering and judging their general exhibits. This year marks the 145th Annual Cottonwood County Fair, and organizers have packed the schedule with plenty of new and fun activities for fairgoers of all ages. Tonight, fairgoers can enjoy the Bounce Around inflatables, Charger Back 9 Mini Golf, BINGO, the House Cat and Kitten Show, and live music from the Whitesidewalls. There will also be a presentation recognizing Cottonwood County Century Farms before the Whitesidewalls take the stage. Thursday brings even more action, including live music throughout the afternoon and evening, the Southwest Minnesota Cornhole Tournament, the Cottonwood County Ranch Rodeo, and music from Waylon Arndt and Jerod Zimmer. On Friday, one of the unique attractions making its return is DockDogs Northern Stars, where dogs compete in exciting dock-jumping events. Friday evening also features Cactus Rose Barrel Riding and live music from Hicktown Mafia. Saturday is filled with family activities, including DockDogs, blacksmith demonstrations, the Kid’s Corner, a family dog and puppy show, mounted shooting, a County Fair Bake-Off, and a Kid’s and Adult Tractor Pedal Pull. Saturday night wraps up with a teen dance and live music from Ragtown. And while you’re enjoying the fair, don’t forget to support the Cottonwood County 4-H Food Stand. Local gardeners are being asked to donate extra fresh produce to help stock the kitchen during fair week. They are especially looking for cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, green beans, beets, sweet corn, carrots, and onions. Donations can be dropped off at the northwest kitchen door of the 4-H Food Stand through Saturday morning. The Cottonwood County Fair continues through Sunday, with something for just about everyone from 4-H exhibits and livestock shows to live music, entertainment, food, games and family activities. KNOW BEFORE YOU VOTE — PART ONE
As you know we are starting to head into he political window of voting for who you want in office. I am going to do a 4 part series on Know before you vote for the next four days! Just so we can all be informed! I am in no way telling you how to vote but to get out and vote!
The Minnesota State Primary is coming up Tuesday, August 11th but what exactly are we voting for? The August primary is the election used to narrow the field of candidates for the November 3rd General Election. In Minnesota, state and federal offices are partisan races. When you vote in the primary, you choose one political party’s ballot and vote for candidates within that party. You cannot vote for candidates from more than one political party in the same primary. Minnesota does not require voters to register with a political party, so you make that choice when you vote. Your primary ballot can include races for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Minnesota Senate and Minnesota House. Depending on where you live, you may also have other races or questions on your ballot. And that’s important for local voters because not everyone in the KDOM listening area will have exactly the same ballot. If you’re not sure what’s on your ballot, the Minnesota Secretary of State has a “What’s On My Ballot” tool at mnvotes.gov. You can enter your information to see your sample ballot and find your polling location. The State Primary is Tuesday, August 11th.
