Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported 29 calls from July 27th to July 30th. Deputies conducted multiple welfare checks and investigated a reported theft at the Heron Lake Laundromat involving several juveniles. Deputies also assisted the Minnesota State Patrol after a vehicle struck a pole on Interstate 90 west of Lakefield, with Lakefield Ambulance and Fire Department responding as a precaution. Deputies also responded after a young child was found wandering a neighborhood in Jackson and returned the child safely to a parent. Deputies responded to reports involving possible animal neglect, a domestic disturbance in Middletown Township, abandoned vehicles, and two separate vandalism reports, including slashed tires on a vehicle parked at an apartment complex in Jackson. Windom Police officers investigated three vehicle tampering calls on the 26th in the 800 Block of 16th Street, the 700 Block of 16th Street and in the 600 Block of 13th Street. Also on the 26th at 11:15pm officers responded to a report of an intoxicated driver on 20th Street in Windom. The officer located and observed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. After investigation, an arrest was made of a 36-year-old female from Windom for Gross Misdemeanor 3rd Degree DWI. Windom Police officers investigated a theft report on the 27th at approximately 9:06am. According to the report a vehicle in the 600 Block of 16th Street had $55 removed from their wallet that was in their vehicle in the early morning hours of the 25th. A report of a vehicle being tampered with was taken at 6:28pm on the 27th. The reporting party stated her 2016 Kia Optima in the 800 Block of Prospect Ave had the door handle keyhole cover taken off between the night of July 25th and July 27th. It was noted nothing was taken from inside the vehicle as it was locked the and suspects could not enter.

The detour for the Highway 30 box culvert project at Highwater Creek, located between Westbrook and Storden, is expected to begin Aug. 10, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Motorists will be detoured to Cottonwood County Roads 5, 13 and 7 until the project is completed in mid-October. All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges drivers to stay alert and use caution in work zones where workers are present. The project will install a box culvert near Highwater Creek under Highway 30 to improve drainage and enhance safety. Town and Country Excavating LLC was awarded the project with a bid of $786,692.20.
