The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office released a statement on Saturday regarding a fatal crash on the 18th at 4:24pm on County State Access Highway 46 and County State Access Highway 8. According to the release a 40 year male driving his motorcycle lost control on the curve and went into the ditch where he hit a road sign. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Redwood County Sherrif’s Office was assisted by MN State Patrol, Centtra Care Ambulance, Vesta Fire Department, Vesta First Responders and the Wood Lake Fire Department.

Congressional candidate Jake Johnson will hold a town hall meeting Monday evening in St. James as part of a district-wide tour across southern Minnesota. Johnson, a DFL candidate for Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District, says the tour includes plans for town halls in all 21 counties of the district this summer. The event is scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the 225 Event Center in St. James. According to the campaign, attendees will be able to ask questions directly, with no pre-screening or registration required. Johnson is a math teacher from Stewartville and is seeking the congressional seat currently held by Congressman Brad Finstad.

The Mountain Lake City Council will meet tonight at 5:45 p.m. at the Mountain Lake Community Center, with the proposed data center expected to be one of the evening’s main topics. The Council agenda includes a presentation of the City Council’s Findings of Fact regarding the proposed project, followed by a public comment period. While the meeting is not a public hearing, residents will have an opportunity to share their thoughts with the Council. Anyone wishing to speak must complete a Speaker Registration Form before the public comment period begins. Speakers will be called in the order they register and will have up to three minutes each to address the Council. In other city business, the Mountain Lake Economic Development Authority recently approved moving forward with a grant application designed to support economic development and encourage new business growth in the community. The EDA also authorized staff to obtain engineering bids needed to complete the grant application. City Administrator Michael Muller also announced that the City’s Capital Improvement Plan meeting has been scheduled for Monday, August 10th, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The Capital Improvement Plan serves as the City’s long-range planning guide for major infrastructure and equipment projects and will be reviewed alongside department budget requests during the upcoming budget process. The Mountain Lake City Council meeting begins at 5:45 p.m. tonight at the Community Center and is open to the public.

The Business, Arts and Recreation Center, or BARC, is inviting the community to its 25th Annual Block Party and Annual Meeting tonight on the east lawn of the BARC Building at 1012 Fifth Avenue in Windom. The evening begins with a community meal from 5:30 to 6:30 featuring your choice of a burger or brat, along with chips, a cookie and beverage for $10. Take-out meals will also be available. Additional servings for $5 each. The annual meeting starts shortly after 6:30 p.m. and will include a look back at BARC’s accomplishments over the past year, a financial report and the election of board members. Community members can also renew or purchase BARC memberships before the meeting. The annual silent auction continues throughout the evening with a variety of gift baskets, certificates and other donated items. Bidding will close following the annual meeting at approximately 7 p.m. Bid Winners will be contacted by phone later this week. Everyone is welcome to attend and help celebrate 25 years of BARC serving the Windom community.
