The Windom Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying an individual believed to be connected to a series of vehicle-related crimes in the community. According to police, investigators believe the suspect stole a 2020 Hyundai Tucson from the 1100 Block of Prospect Ave. on July 10th at they thought 1:00am. According to the report the thief took the Hyundai on a joyride, caused damage to it, and later returned the vehicle to its owner. Authorities also believe the same individual unlawfully entered another vehicle. Both incidents were captured on surveillance cameras. Windom Police say someone has damaged, unlawfully entered, or tampered with six vehicles in Windom over the past week. Investigators noted that in the two incidents caught on camera, which occurred four days apart, the suspect appeared to be wearing the same clothing. The individual is described as a light-skinned male with curly or permed hair. He was seen wearing a light-colored hoodie with the word “ESSENTIALS” printed on the back, dark sweatpants, dark Crocs, a dark face mask, and protective work gloves. The Windom Police Department reminds residents to always lock their vehicles and avoid leaving valuables in plain sight. Anyone who recognizes the individual or has information related to these incidents is encouraged to contact the Windom Police Department at 507-831-6134. Police say any information from the public could be helpful as the investigation continues.
Along with this theft a report of another theft was reported on the 10th that took place on the 7th. The reporting party stated he had parked his vehicle in front of the Windom DMV. While inside the DMV renewing his tags, his ASUS laptop that was located in the front passenger seat was stolen. The value of the laptop is $1,800. On the 11th at approximately 5:31 an officer responded to the 1600 block of Cottonwood Lake Drive, Tegels Park in regard to a physical fight in progress. After investigation, two arrests were made. A 23-year-old male from Sioux Falls was arrested for Disorderly Conduct, Disruptive Intoxication, Assault in 4th Degree X 2, Assault in the 5th Degree and Obstructing Legal Process. A 25-year-old male of Windom was arrested for Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Contempt, Disruptive Intoxication and Assault in 5th Degree. Both pending review of the Prosecuting Attorney. Also at this time an off-duty officer whom was still dressed in uniform assisted the officer with the above fight at Tegels Park. The officer approached a group of females that were holding another individual involved on the ground. After investigation, it was learned that one of the females was the wife of the Sioux Falls Man. The 27-year-old female was cited for Obstructing Legal Process.

The Mountain Lake City Council will hold its regular meeting on Monday, July 20, at 5:45 p.m. at the Community Center. While this is NOT a public hearing, the agenda includes an opportunity for residents to provide comments on the proposed data center. Anyone wishing to speak must complete a Speaker Registration Form before the public comment period begins. Speakers will be called in the order they register and will have up to three minutes to address the Council. The City Council encourages public input and welcomes differing viewpoints. Participants are asked to remain respectful, avoid disruptions, and direct all comments to the Council. Council members may ask clarifying questions but may not respond to every comment or engage in debate during the public comment period. The City says the guidelines are intended to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to be heard and that the meeting is conducted in an orderly and respectful manner.
