Windom Police Officers investigated 1 Vehicle Theft, 1 Tresspass, 1 Suspicious Activity, 3 Suspicious People, 1 Suspicious Vehicle, 1 Theft, and 2 Fraud Calls. Officers responded to 1 Disorderly Conduct, 1 Disturbance, 1 Harrassment, and conducted 1 Predatory Offender Check and 37 Traffic Stops. Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported 50 calls in the week of July 6th to July 12th. Deputies responded to 5 separate Domestic Disturbance calls in Jackson, 1 Domestic Assault in Heron Lake, an Assault in Jackson and a Burglary. Deputies assisted Jackson Ambulance, MN State Patrol, Motorist, Lakefield Ambulance and conducted several Welfare Checks and 2 Civil Standbys. The Jeffers City Council met in regular session Monday evening at City Hall with Mayor Brad Prins and all council members in attendance. During the meeting, the council was informed that the dangerous dog located at 211 West Clark Street suffered a broken leg and was taken to the Slayton Veterinary Clinic, where it was euthanized. The city clerk also reported that letters will be sent to residents regarding garbage and lawn mowing concerns. Maintenance Supervisor Lance Holmen told the council that a pump at the city’s pond system has been replaced. Holmen also plans to look into purchasing security cameras for city property. The council reviewed and approved a building permit for the construction of a fence and discussed future seal coating and mastic work on city streets. The council approved payment of bills and the city’s financial report.

The City of St. James is asking for public feedback on a temporary street improvement project at the intersection of Armstrong Boulevard North and 5th Avenue North. Temporary curb extensions have been installed at the intersection as part of the city’s Active Transportation Action Plan. The demonstration project is designed to evaluate ways to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other users of the roadway. City officials say community feedback will play an important role in determining the effectiveness of the project and helping guide future transportation improvements. Residents and anyone who travels through the intersection are encouraged to complete a public survey and share their experiences. The survey is available online through the St. James Active Transportation Plan website, and paper copies are also available at St. James City Hall. The Red Rock Central School Board will meet tonight in regular session beginning at 5 p.m. in the district’s Media Center. Board members will hear reports from the district’s business manager, activities director, and superintendent/principal. Under new business, the board is scheduled to consider several personnel contracts, including agreements for the Human Resources Specialist and Accounts Payable/Receivable position, the Superintendent and Elementary Administrative Assistant, and the Dean of Students, Activities Director, and Director of Transportation. Other agenda items include approval of the district’s Long-Term Facilities Maintenance Plan, bus routes, the district’s Iowa assessments, student activity accounts, and annual memberships with both the Minnesota Rural Education Association and the Minnesota School Boards Association. The board will also consider a policy regarding Senior Class Activity Fund Distribution and set dates for upcoming work sessions and regular meetings.
