Redwood County Sheriff’s Office released the following report: on the 5th of July the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office received two reports regarding damage to property, specifically to mailboxes. While speaking with the owners of the damaged property, it was determined that an unknown person or persons placed fireworks inside of the mailbox’s and lit them, causing the mailboxes to break. If anyone has information regarding these incidents. Please contact the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office at 507-637-4036. These incidents remain under investigation.

Windom Police Department reported 102 calls in the week of June 28th to July 4th. Officers had 11 Directed Patrols, 2 Concerns for Welfare, 4 Citizen Complaints, 1 Motorist Assist, 6 Public Assists and 1 Fireworks Call. Windom Police Officers investigated 1 Suspicious Vehicle, 2 Suspicious Activities, 2 Damage to Properties, and 2 Thefts. Officers conducted 41 Traffic Stops and had 3 Animal Related calls. The Mountain Lake Utilities Commission covered several utility and community development projects during its meeting in June. Commission members discussed renewing a wind turbine land lease after the previous 20-year agreement expired. The landowner is requesting an increase in the annual lease payment from $4,000 to $14,000. The proposal will be reviewed by the Commission’s attorney. The Commission also approved a $35 daily fee for food trucks and vendors using the city’s electrical hookups near the park on Third Avenue, with staff developing a sign-out procedure for access. Utility officials reported the city’s reverse osmosis water system should be back to full operation following repairs. They also reviewed plans for a new jetter truck and discussed a multi-year project to clean, paint and maintain the city’s fire hydrants. City Administrator Michael Mueller said a grant has been awarded to expand Lakeview Estates with room for 12 new homes, the new hotel is expected to open by the end of July, and construction on a new apartment building was set to begin at the end of June. Commission Chairman David Savage announced he will be stepping down as chairman after moving to Windom.

A piece of Windom history could soon become yours while helping build its future. The Windom Area Chamber of Commerce is holding a special Kastle Kingdom Fundraiser Auction during Hot Dog Night on Thursday, July 16. The live auction will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on the Courthouse Square in downtown Windom. As the original wooden Kastle Kingdom playground is replaced, community members will have the opportunity to bid on memorable pieces of the beloved playground. Auction items are expected to include features such as the iconic double slide and other original playground components. All proceeds from the auction will help support the Kastle Kingdom Playground Project. Those who wish to support the project but are unable to attend the auction can make a direct financial donation through the Windom Area Foundation. Thanks to a partnership with Bank Midwest, every three dollars donated will be matched with an additional one dollar. Anyone interested in placing an absentee bid should contact the Windom Area Chamber of Commerce or the Friends of Windom Parks: Kastle Kingdom committee before the auction to make arrangements. The fundraiser is one of the featured events during the Chamber’s annual Hot Dog Night celebration and offers a unique chance to take home a piece of local history while helping create a new generation of memories at Kastle Kingdom.
